Warburton Habitat Tree

Warburton Habitat Tree Education Programs and Eco Tours that support native forest, wildlife and water conservation.

Our education programs will explore different forest types and their biodiversity, from fungi and invertebrates to Mountain Ash and the Powerful Owl. Look at whole ecosystems and the intricate web of life that supports them. Learn about history, human and environmental impacts on our natural resources and the connection between forest's and water. Most importantly, we provide tools that will enable each individual to contribute to conservation and a more sustainable future for all.

WOW! What a massive couple of weeks it has been in court! Today our trial against VicForests, defending the unburnt habitat of threatened species, impacted by the fires has wrapped up after 3 huge weeks.

Over the past few weeks we have heard from the WOTCH team, many VicForests employees including the CEO, planners and contractors, Greater Glider, Forest Owl and Smoky Mouse experts and today financial experts!

The amount of evidence that has been included in this proceeding is enormous and the legal team at Environmental Justice Australia and counsel have done an incredible job at putting it all together and asking all the right questions.

The legal team will now be working hard over the next month to put together our final submissions, followed by VicForests final submissions. We expect to be back in court around June to hear the final submissions in a public hearing.

Thank you to everyone for supporting us through this journey, we could not have come this far with out our incredible supporters.

Stay tuned for the next chapter!

After much procrastination … Its time
It is with some sadness but without regret that I must announce that I have decided to close Warburton Habitat Tree and the Indoor Forest.
I began this incredible environment education journey in October 2011. I moved into the Waterwheel Building in the main street of the historic township of Warburton. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect location for my new venture. I was directly across the road from the Yarra River, surrounded by unique aquatic and forest ecosystems and an abundance of native wildlife species.
The last 10+ years with Warburton Habitat Tree have been one of the most rewarding times of my career and something that I am very proud of. Doing something that I love, raising ecological awareness and understanding to student groups has been an absolute joy. It has always been the children, their curiosity, energy, enthusiasm, wonderment and excitement have been my constant inspiration.
I have also had the pleasure of sharing nature, stories and laughs with some wonderful community groups such as scouts, car clubs, bush walking groups, probus. It has been extremely special to have had the opportunity to work with all ages. Nature does not discriminate and has a way of inspiring respect, connection and imagination in all of us.
The Indoor Forest has been such an amazing resource and has been loved by so many, most of all by me. I will miss this special place dearly. Thank you to the taxi animals that I am so grateful for. They have supported our programs and field trips providing a close up educational opportunity to connect visitors to our incredibly unique native wildlife species, their natural habitats and conservation.
I have met and worked with many amazing people, educators, teachers, local business, passionate individuals, community groups and volunteers. Speaking of volunteers – these people are angels. They share their time, passion, historical knowledge and love of community to support local business, the environment and tourism. You all rock! I also want to thank the Upper Yarra Community Enterprise (Bendigo Bank) for always being a supportive landlord, especially over these last two difficult years.
What’s next? I have had some ideas of reinventing Warburton Habitat Tree but need some time to clear my head and decide what things may or could look like in the future. I also thought I might keep this fb page going to share about local wildlife and their habitats. I will continue to work with Friends of the Leadbeater’s Possum as I have for 11 or 12 years now! I will continue to be inspired by nature and look forward to the next part of my journey. Thank you kindly.
Love Kim

The disappointing news our client, Friends of Leadbeater's Possum Inc.’s application to the High Court was denied confirms federal environment laws need urgent reform and are catastrophically failing threatened species.

VicForests can continue logging despite breaching state laws and driving threatened possums to extinction.

This is not the end of the road. We will continue our work to make sure environment laws do what they are supposed to do and protect wildlife.

Victoria’s tall montane ash and mixed species forests in the Central Highlands provide some of the last remaining habitat for the critically endangered wollert (Leadbeater’s Possum) and the vulnerable warnda (Greater Glider). These nocturnal possums need the tall canopies and deep hollows of old...

This is a fantastic article with amazing mapping showing illegal logging in our water catchment - such a disappointmentment that our corrupt governments and legal system does not protect the land or its people. Ahh goals 🐌

High-resolution spatial data and information obtained as part of an ABC investigation sparks allegations of widespread and systemic illegal logging in protected Victorian water catchments.

It is with much regret that we announce that we are temporarily closed once again due to the current Covid19 outbreak. It was so wonderful to have schools return even though it was short lived after having been closed for a whole year.
Thank you for your support and hope to see you again real soon. Stay safe 🍄
