🌧️ Makuru has arrived in Waroona 🌿

In the Noongar seasons, Makuru is known as the season of rain and cold winds — a time when wetlands fill, waterways flow and the landscape transforms with the arrival of winter.

Across the Shire of Waroona, Makuru brings misty mornings, flowing creeks, green landscapes and an abundance of birdlife throughout our forests, lakes and wetlands. 🦢

It’s a beautiful time to slow down, explore nature and experience the quieter side of the region — from the wetlands of Yalgorup National Park to the towering forests along the scarp.

We acknowledge and respect the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters of the Shire of Waroona and recognise the deep knowledge and connection Noongar people have shared with Country for tens of thousands of years.

🐝 World Bee Day – 20 May 🐝

Today we celebrate one of nature’s smallest but most important workers — the humble bee. 💛

From pollinating the food we eat to supporting healthy ecosystems and wildflowers, bees play a vital role in the environment around us. Without them, many of the beautiful landscapes, gardens and crops we enjoy simply wouldn’t thrive. 🌼🍯

Even here in the Shire of Waroona, our buzzing little friends are hard at work amongst native bushland, wildflowers, orchards and gardens every single day.

And taking a trip down memory lane… here’s Mooriel from previous years getting into the spirit dressed as a bee! 🐝✨

You can help bees by:
🌸 Planting bee-friendly flowers
💧 Leaving shallow water out in warmer months
🚫 Avoiding unnecessary pesticides
🌿 Protecting native habitat

Take a moment today to appreciate these tiny environmental superheroes.

🐑🌿 New life is arriving across the Shire of Waroona 🌿🐄

As you explore our beautiful region from sea to scarp this season, keep an eye on the paddocks — lambing and calving season is underway, with tiny new arrivals bringing the countryside to life 💛

From winding country roads to open farmland, it’s one of the most special times of year to experience the charm of rural Waroona. You may spot playful lambs close to their mums, curious calves discovering the world, and green paddocks bursting with life after the cooler weather.

And for those wondering — these beautiful animals are actually Damara sheep, a unique self-shedding breed well suited to Australian conditions… not goats 😊

If you’re out enjoying a scenic drive, please remember:
✨ Slow down and drive carefully near livestock
✨ Leave gates as you find them
✨ Admire animals from a distance and avoid entering private property

Only just over an hour from Perth, there’s never been a better time to discover the beauty of the Peel countryside 🌾
