Important update for dual citizens of Europe and Ireland.

Like the UK earlier this year, if you hold dual nationality you must enter Europe on your European passport, not your Australian one.

Aussie passport holders will need to obtain the ETIAS authorisation prior to travel.

If you plan to travel to Europe later this year or next year and need to update your European passport I would start looking at applying now. Processing times for some countries may be long so don’t delay.

More info to come…

The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is due to be implemented toward the end of 2026. Once implemented, travellers visiting any of the 30 participating European countries visa-free will need to get an ETIAS travel authorisation. The ETIAS is different to the European Entry/Exit System (EES).

Dual citizens of participating European countries or Ireland will not be eligible for an ETIAS travel authorisation. If you’re a dual citizen, once the system is implemented you will not be able to enter any participating countries using your Australian passport. You will have to enter using the passport from your other country of citizenship.

If you don’t have a passport from your other country of citizenship, apply for one soon. Application wait times in some countries can be very long.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
👇👇👇👇

Australians who are British/Irish dual citizens will no longer be able to use their Australian passport to enter the United Kingdom, starting from 25 Feb. The new requirement means dual citizens will need a valid British or Irish passport in order to visit the country. Those who already have flights booked to the UK may find themselves in a bind, with wait times for a British passport between six and 13 weeks.

The option to fast-track the process is only available to dual citizens who are already within the UK, otherwise, travellers may able to obtain an emergency travel document if they meet certain criteria (see Travel urgently from abroad without your UK passport: Who can apply - GOV.UK).

Alternatively, travellers can use their Australian passport with a certificate of entitlement, which will set them back £589 (A$1,180) and must be renewed each time their passport expires - this has a shorter processing time of around three weeks. According to a report on 9News, some Australian-British citizens are so unhappy with the new entry rule that they have chosen to renounce their citizenship. This in itself is an expensive and lengthy ordeal, to the tune of around £482 (around $966) and six months’ processing time.

Please also ensure you are up to date with the current travel advise from Smartraveller.

https://www.smartraveller.gov.au/destinations/europe/united-kingdom

If you are a dual citizen it might be time to renew your UK passport - please allow plenty of time to do so.

A little insight into my business…..

Travel deals are everywhere – your inbox, your letterbox, the Sunday papers, social media, the list goes on! And sometimes, they even land in your lap after you’ve travelled, when providers market directly to you with offers that seem too good to pass up.

What they won’t tell you is this: I can usually access the very same offer and more. The bonus? I can also compare what’s out there, give you independent advice, and tailor it to what I know you love (and what you don’t).

Here’s the important part: when you book directly with a provider, they become the point of contact. That means I can’t support you with that element of your booking. But if you book through me, you get both the deal and the peace of mind that I’ll be here to help with flights, hotels, or any unexpected bumps along the way.

So, if you spot a tempting offer, ask me about it first. That way you’ll never have to choose between a good deal and your personal travel manager. You get the best of both worlds because I have got you covered as my valued client.

Kind regards
