Just when you thought you had UK passport rules worked out... Europe has said, **"Not so fast!"** 😅
**ETIAS is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026**, and while most UK and Australian passport holders will simply need an ETIAS travel authorization...

# # # 🇮🇪🇦🇺 Irish or European Dual Citizen? READ THIS!
If you're an **Australian who is also a dual citizen of Ireland or another participating European country**, and your holiday includes **ANY** of these countries:
• Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus
• Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France
• Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy
• Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta
• Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania
• Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland
➡️ **You must travel using your participating European passport.** Your Australian passport alone won't be enough once ETIAS comes into effect.

Now might be a good time to apply. Some countries have passport processing times that can make watching paint dry seem exciting.
# # # ETIAS – The Basics
✅ Expected to start: **Last Quarter of 2026**
💶 Cost: **EUR 20** for adults over 18
👶 Under 18s and 👵 over 70s don't pay, but must still apply
📅 Valid for up to **3 years** or until your passport expires
🛂 Allows visa-free travel for up to **90 days in any 180-day period** across 30 participating European countries
# # # Travelling to Ireland?
You can still travel to **Ireland on your Australian passport.**
**BUT...**
If you are a dual citizen of Ireland or another participating European country and you are stopping over in one of the ETIAS countries listed above, you will need to use your **participating European passport**.
