But before it became one of Victoria’s most intriguing ghost locations, Point Nepean was Australia’s first line of defense against deadly diseases. Over 10,000 migrants, sailors and returning servicemen passed through its gates, many forced into weeks—or even months—of isolation. Some never made it home.

🌙 As night falls, the station takes on a very different atmosphere.

Behind the cold bluestone walls of J Ward lies a chilling past. Before it was an asylum for the criminally insane, it was a maximum-security goldfields prison—and home to infamous inmates like Mark “Chopper” Read and Gary Webb.

⚡ Fun Fact: Executed prisoners weren't buried in traditional graves—their bodies were placed vertically inside the prison walls to ensure they stayed within consecrated ground, with their initials carved directly into the bluestone.
