“That's what life’s about, just getting out there, having fun...” – Steve Irwin 🏄‍♀️

That’s exactly what these students did with Pines Surfing Academy - embracing the waves, learning something new, and discovering just how rewarding it feels to step outside your comfort zone.

From wipeouts to breakthroughs, surfing isn’t just about balance on a board, it’s about building confidence, persistence, and a sense of adventure that lasts far beyond the beach.

Facing fears, building courage, and embracing the unknown.

Year 8 students took to the treetops and pushed their limits, discovering that courage isn’t about being fearless, it’s about taking action despite the fear. Each step, swing, and leap built resilience, strength, and confidence that will carry beyond this adventure.

Fear tests us. Courage changes us. Well done Year 8!

Out at Glenworth Valley, Year 10 students took a break from the action to enjoy a classic game of Fish, which dates back to 19th-century China.

In a world where screens dominate, moments like these - connecting offline, laughing over a deck of cards, and simply being present - nurture patience, problem-solving, and resilience, while helping students develop the skills to connect and engage meaningfully in the real world. Experiences like this don’t just create memories, they shape character.

And at Southbound Adventures, fostering these traits through real-world experiences is at the heart of what we do.

No devices, no boredom...just pure adventure!

Say hello to one of the tiniest adventurers in the bush! 🐭

Spotted by Bec during a recent Year 8 adventure, this adorable Australian Bush Mouse (also known as the Eastern Chestnut Mouse) is a nocturnal native that plays an important role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. These little creatures help spread seeds and aerate the soil as they forage, keeping the bush thriving!

While they might be small, their impact on the environment is anything but. Encounters like these remind us that nature is full of surprises, and every creature has its part to play.

Don’t just walk past - stop, look, and take it all in. Views like this are worth appreciating every time!

Morton National Park - A Year 9 adventure!

Canoeing along the Kangaroo River and bushwalking through Morton National Park was on the agenda for Year 9 last week. They paddled to Sharks Fin and Beehive Point, navigating the winding waterways and taking in the stunning natural surroundings, and trekked to Gales Flat, a hidden gem within the park.

Morton National Park is one of the largest in New South Wales, known for its rugged escarpments, deep gorges, and diverse wildlife. It’s also home to some of the state’s most impressive sandstone cliffs and waterfalls, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts...and keen students!

Well done for embracing the wild!

Squeezing, scrambling, and discovering the underground wonders of Grill Cave, Year 10 students stepped into a whole new world beneath Bungonia National Park last week!

Armed with headlamps and plenty of determination, they navigated narrow passages, towering limestone formations, and the dark, silent beauty of one of Australia’s most renowned caving sites.

Bungonia is home to some of the deepest caves in the country, so it provides an incredible opportunity to experience the underground landscape up close. Exploring these ancient caverns required patience, curiosity, and teamwork - skills these students demonstrated in spades!

An unforgettable challenge, and one they conquered with courage. Well done to all!

Towering cliffs, rugged trails, and sweeping views - Bungonia National Park set the stage for an unforgettable bushwalking expedition. Year 10 students tackled the Green and Red Tracks, covering steep terrain, winding forest paths, and breathtaking lookouts.

This park is often called the ‘Grand Canyon of Australia’ due to its deep gorges and dramatic landscapes. As they hiked through diverse environments, students saw firsthand why Bungonia is known for its unique geology and rich biodiversity. With every climb and descent, they built a deeper appreciation for the wilderness.

A huge achievement for these students, who took on the challenge with enthusiasm and determination!

Last week, a fantastic group of Year 8 students put their skills to the test in the great outdoors. Hiking through Mt Keira, walking the breathtaking Kiama Coast Track, stand-up paddleboarding and surfing at Easts Beach - each activity challenged them to build resilience, work together, and step into new experiences.

The Kiama Coast Track was a real highlight. The students loved the sweeping ocean views and lush green pastures...and we even saw a few curious cows along the way!

Beyond the adventure, this trip was about embracing the journey.

A huge well done to these students for taking on every challenge with enthusiasm and determination!

Over the past few days, an incredible group of Year 7 students embraced the wild on an unforgettable outdoor adventure.

From hiking the stunning Jibbon Head Loop and Coast Walk to Wattamolla, to mastering stand-up paddleboarding and canoeing at Maianbar, every challenge pushed their courage, resilience, and teamwork to new heights.

Evenings were spent under the stars, with plenty of laughter at Twisted Olympics and a relaxed sunset beach watch - the perfect way to reflect on their journey.

A huge shoutout to these young adventurers for stepping out of their comfort zones, supporting each other, and making unforgettable memories.
