you simply cant but love YAKS! Yaks originated in Tibet and have spread throughout Mongolia, Bhutan, Nepal, China, and the Indian Himalayas
Yaks have been on earth for over 2 million years and were domesticated at least 4 thousand years ago for their wool, milk, leather, horns & meat ~ but i just adore then for their s**g, their chunky & out of proportion body, their big soft noses and their huge dark eyes ๐๐
Yaks can live in high altitude places because they have extra large lungs (and extra ribs) to breathe easily in thin air, they can live in very cold places because they have think long coats and they can walk on ice with their wide split hooves
yaks donโt moo - they grunt, they can swim, they have a double coat, and both wild and domestic yaks can live up to 20 yrs+
driving around Mongolia you can see hundreds of yaks of all different colours, just lolling on the road, munching grass, and drinking in streams
babies stay with their mothers and there are no fences to pen them in until night time when they are herded back in for their safety
early every morning yaks are milked by hand with baby close by. baby yaks drink mums milk first, then a small amount is expressed into a bucket, then baby has mum the rest of the day, until the afternoon milking
Mongolians use the milk to make salted tea, yoghurt, cheese, dried curd, butter & milk vodka
in Mongolia yaks are sometimes crossed with cows to make a smaller mix breed bovine that produces more milk and is a little easier to manage
yaks would have to be one of my favourite animals but no, im not getting one because in Australia you cantโฆprobably a good thing tbh!!!
