We were blessed with clear blue skies and crisp morning air for the final session of our Become an Active Hiker program.

Conditions were perfect for putting into practice all the lessons learned over the past three weeks. There were ascents and descents, stairs and hills, plus opportunities to practise using hiking poles while reinforcing the importance of pacing, strength, and endurance.

At Women’s Fitness Adventures, we are passionate about teaching and training women, and when the opportunity arises, taking them on amazing adventures. Along the way, often without even realising it, connections are made and friendships are built through the simple joy of being out on the trails.

My BUFF 😀

My BUFF is far more than "just a piece of hiking gear", it's a reminder of where my journey began.

I received it from WFA when I first started hiking, a complete novice, unsure of myself, but willing to give it a go.

Since then, my BUFF has travelled with me through every hike, every challenge, and adventures all around the world. It has been through the early starts, the tough climbs, the unforgettable views, and the moments where I realised I was capable of far more than I ever imagined.

Over time, my BUFF has come to represent so much more than hiking and fitness. It reminds me of the support and encouragement I've had along the way, the people and experiences that helped me grow not only physically, but personally too.

Through hiking, I've grown in confidence, independence, resilience, and strength as a woman, and every time I wear it, I'm reminded of those beginnings and how far I've come.

Most of all, my BUFF reminds me that we're all capable of more than we think, and that everyday, women can do extraordinary things. What started as a practical piece of hiking apparel has become a symbol of growth, courage, adventure and the journey that continues with every step I take.

Session 2 of Become an Active Hiker. And today the trail did not make it easy.

Six kilometres of hills, steps, rocky trails and tree roots. The kind of terrain that teaches you more in three hours than any flat path ever could.

We talked about hydration. Fuelling for hikes. And what it meant to our team to finally say - I'm doing this.

Then at the end, while we stretched, we talked gear. Boots. Socks. What to look for and what to leave on the shelf. Because when you're just starting out, the hiking industry has a lot of opinions about your wallet.

Knowing what you actually need and what you don't, is one of the best things we cover in this program.

Some women come to hiking to get fit.
But something else happens along the way.
They start to trust what their body can do. Not the body they had at 30. Not the body they think they should have. The body they're in right now.

For some it's getting back to something they once had. For others it's discovering something completely new. Things they never did as kids, never thought they'd do as adults, and are doing now at 55 or 62 or 68.

Tonight I want to talk about that. The swings and the monkey bars and the tree climbing. The things we did without thinking as children. What happened to them. And what hiking gives back, or gives for the very first time.
