UNESCO World Heritage Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is an Orthodox monastery founded in 1051 by monks Anthony and Theodosius. In the XI century, the monastery became the centre of Christianity in Kyivan Rus. Nowadays this outstanding monument of Ukrainian and world culture is also one of the most visited tourist attractions in Kiev.
What to visit there?
1. Upper Lavra, a historical & cultural monument and an active monastery;
2. Lower Lavra with chain of caves;
3. Miniatures Museum and Historical Treasures Museum;
4. Holy Trinity Gate Church built at the biginning of XIIs;
5. Spasa-na-Berestove Church. It was built by The Prince Vladimir Monomakh and there are ancient frescoes inside. It is also the tomb of Kievian Prince Yuri Dolgoruky, the founder of Moscow;
6. Upstairs Great Lavra Bell Tower and enjoy Kiev views and magic landscapes.
