Pause. Breathe. Connect. 🌍

Today is World Breathing Day. A global reminder to slow down, regulate, and tune in. We think Africa has been offering that invitation for a very long time.

Our safaris are designed to engage all your senses in wild places — because that’s where real connection begins. To wildlife. To communities. To the kind of perspective that travels home with you.

📷 Sharing a selection of images from our February pilot trip to Mauritania, a landscape so open, so ancient, so unhurried, it demands you stop and breathe it in....properly. More from Mauritania coming soon. 👀

You may have noticed something's changed. 🦁

In 2011 RAW Africa Eco-Tours was launched and after 15 years of proudly operating across Africa, we've refreshed our brand to reflect why we exist and who we are.

Our new logo tells our story, brought to life by three purposefully chosen animals. Together, they represent everything we stand for: protecting and conserving Africa's wildlife and wild places, consciously working with local communities, and curating ethical awe-inspiring journeys.

This is who we are. This is why we do what we do. 🙌

This IWD we want to celebrate some of the women who inspire Brooke and the whole team at RAW Africa, Brookes’ friends and colleagues behind the scenes who make conservation happen every day.

These are not women who seek the spotlight, they kindly and quietly change the world through courage, grit, and an unwavering love for wildlife.

Diana Maclean — photographer and story-teller-courageous, tireless, and capturing the wild in ways that remind us why it must be protected. .africa

Jess McKelson — CEO and global conservation leader- resilient and relentless in the fight for great apes.

Eliza Stott — Australian wildlife biologist - visionary, passionate, and always empowering others. Founder of .in.wildlife

Associate Professor Jennie Willis Marko — animal behavior expert - strategic, energetic, and never afraid to take risks for what matters.

Mary Wykstra — Director and founder - a survivor, a pioneer, with a never-say-die attitude.

“These are my people. The women I turn to for inspiration, advice and guidance.

And the women I’m lucky enough to share those moments of awe with — out in the wild, where the work truly matters” - Brooke Squires, 8 March 2026.

Happy International Women’s Day 💜

We’re thrilled to share that Brooke, our Founder, has been appointed to the Advisory Board of .in.wildlife an organisation dedicated to connecting and amplifying women working across wildlife and conservation industries 🙌🏻

Women in Wildlife (WIW) creates a supportive community where women can share knowledge, build networks, and highlight the incredible work being done to protect wildlife around the world. Their mission is to inspire the next generation of conservation leaders and help ensure greater diversity in decision-making across the wildlife sector.

Brooke’s career has always been grounded in collaboration, conservation, and creating meaningful opportunities for people to connect with nature — values that strongly align with the work of Women in Wildlife.

We’re also proud to be collaborating with WIW on a special journey to Uganda this September, offering an immersive wildlife experience designed to connect women with conservation experts on the ground, while exploring one of Africa’s most extraordinary landscapes and seeing chimpanzees, gorillas, and rhinos in their natural habitats.

Meet Birhanu, one of our wonderful RAW guides in Ethiopia. Originally from Gondar, he grew up surrounded by mountains and developed a deep love for animals and nature. He studied Animal Science and Wildlife and brings both expertise and warmth to every journey.

Always smiling 😊 and endlessly helpful, Birhanu will guide you through the Simien Mountains, the ancient castles of Gondar, and the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela with ease and insight.

🌍 Did you know? It’s the year 2017 in Ethiopia! The country follows its own calendar and has its own alphabet too—just one of the many things that make Ethiopia so unique.

Meet Benso, one of RAW Africa Eco-Tours’ most experienced guides and a true Great Ape expert.

Benso grew up not far from the forests of southwestern Uganda, near the home of the mountain gorillas. He was part of the original team that habituated the first gorilla group in the country.

His deep love for nature, wildlife, and his homeland shines through every trek he leads. With Benso, you won’t just go gorilla tracking—you’ll experience Uganda through the eyes of someone who’s lived and breathed its forests since childhood.
