Home to the Yea Visitor Information Centre and a gift shop supporting local artists and producers. Opened in August 2014 the Yea Wetlands Discovery Centre features a fully accredited Visitor Information Centre with interactive environmental interpretive displays to inform visitors about the importance of water and local wetland ecology. Located adjacent to the beautiful Yea Wetlands the Centre is

a striking, architecturally designed building incorporating sustainable design elements and native landscaping. A range of local produce, gifts and artworks is available for sale and the Centre can also be hired for meetings and functions. Guided tours of the Wetlands are also available – bookings essential. The Centre is fully accessible and offers ample parking, BBQ and picnic areas as well as a dump point for recreational vehicles and caravans.

Talk like a cockatoo, walk like a cockatoo and head off on a treasure hunt to discover what cockatoos are up to in the wetlands!

There are two fun school-holiday adventures coming up at Yea Wetlands – this one is all about cockatoos, with a separate froggy adventure on Wednesday 30 September.

Join Yea writer and wetlands volunteer Christopher Brennan for a fun, interactive adventure inspired by his book 'Carl the Cockatoo and the Magic Seed Bell'. What is Carl the Cockatoo up to now?

There’ll be:
▶ A reading of Carl the Cockatoo and the Magic Seed Bell
▶ Talk like a cockatoo and walk like a cockatoo!
▶ Discover what cockatoos need to thrive
▶ Set off on a treasure hunt through the wetlands
▶ Look and listen for evidence of cockatoos
▶ Colouring activities for children who prefer to stay indoors

And for children who find sitting still a challenge, we’ll also have a nature fidget tray available.

Draw a frog, make a frog finger puppet, create frog conversations… then head out to the wetlands to investigate our very own frog pond!

Join author and frog scientist Teisha Sloane-Lay and scientist and illustrator Katie Howard for a fun, hands-on morning inspired by their book 'Litoria and Her Wetland Friends'.

There’ll be:
▶ A reading of 'Litoria and Her Wetland Friends'
▶ Learn how to draw a frog with illustrator Katie
▶ Make your own frog finger puppet
▶ Get your frogs talking – and making frog noises!
▶ Head out to the wetlands to investigate our frog pond
▶ Explore pond water and discover whether our wetlands are a safe home for frogs

And for children who find sitting still a challenge, we’ll also have a nature fidget tray available.

National Wattle Day is today, the first day of Spring and Spring has definitely come alive in the Yea Wetlands. Open 10-4pm daily, the YWDC features not only fabulous walks and visitor information, but the wattles in the Wetlands only happen once a year and now is the time to take a walk and gage their splendour.
Lose yourself in nature along our immersive walk, sculpture trail or take a peek at our audio-visual displays in our Discovery Centre.

The YWDC also offers a unique retail centre, with gifts galore, bike rack, water station, public toilets, nearby parking, BBQ, and a dump point nearby. Dogs are welcome on a lead.
Entry is free from 10-4pm although donations are always welcome to help our resources in the Wetlands.

Resplendent after the rain and look who came to visit the YWDC.
The Yea Wetlands Discovery Centre is open 10-4pm daily. Stop by for all your visitor information or take a walk on one of the many trails covering 34 hectares of natural reserve in the Yea Wetlands. Loose yourself in nature along our immersive walk or take a peek of our audio visual displays in our Discovery Centre.
The cooler weather is the perfect time to take a break and Discover Dindi.

As of 9.00am AEST, 14 July 2026, Australia has 13 confirmed detections of H5 bird flu in wild birds.

There are seven confirmed in Western Australia (WA), five in South Australia (SA) and one in New South Wales (NSW).

If you notice sick or dead birds or other animals, you should not touch them or get too close. Record your location and report it to the 𝟮𝟰-𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝟭𝟴𝟬𝟬 𝟲𝟳𝟱 𝟴𝟴𝟴.

There is no evidence of any mass mortality. There is no evidence of infection in poultry or the wider agriculture industry.

The risk to human health remains low.
