The things you find at the boat ramp! Recently while doing boat and JetSki licensing up at Kinchant Dam , we came across this big girl. While walking down the ramp to launch the boat I saw this fish lying on its side, first thought was that it was dead, so tried to grab it to see how big it was, which resulted in it trying to swim away. Unfortunately it didn’t get very far as it rolled onto its side again, next attempt to grab it was successful and I couldn’t see any hook marks in it but it did have a scuff mark down the side with scales missing, so my guess was it’d been hit by a boat. I swam it for around 5mins until it was clamping on my fingers, watched it swim off in to deeper waters, unfortunately though when I launched the boat it was on its side again in deeper waters. I did try to lift it for a pic, which was a struggle, my guess put the fish at 30kg, give or take, I’m kicking myself for not getting a length , but I put the fish around the 120cm.
With the wind set to continue blowing for the next few weeks, we will continue on with our boat/jetski licencing, if you’re interested in getting your licences, please give Heidi a call on 0429 075 506
