Our June Kokoda Trek is officially underway!

The adventure began early this morning as our trekkers departed Cairns for the 1.5-hour flight to Port Moresby. After landing, the group made a quick stop at a local supermarket before visiting the Bomana War Cemetery.

Standing among the thousands of graves is a powerful and emotional reminder of the sacrifices made by so many men who gave their lives for our freedom. It was a moving start to the journey and an opportunity to reflect on the history that makes the Kokoda Track such a significant experience.

From there, the group travelled approximately two hours to Owers' Corner, stopping along the way at McDonald's Corner—the official starting point of the Kokoda Track. Upon arrival at Owers' Corner, they met their porters, enjoyed lunch, and gathered beneath the iconic arches for their "before" photos.
Then it was time to begin the trek.
The first day started with a challenging descent down to Goldie River and their first campsite on the track. Conditions have been ideal, with mild temperatures, sunshine, and a light breeze making for a fantastic start to the adventure. There are a few pics of our group and the rest are from previous treks.

Hey Belinda and Olly,
On behalf of Kerry and I please accept our gratitude and thank you for our life changing journey and experience trekking the Kokoda track with your company. The complete journey from Day 1 to starting the trek at Owers, walking through the Kokoda arches and our haunting and emotional trip to Bomana war cemetery was effortless and so very easy. All our literature, training programs, gear lists, inoculations, visas etc. was well presented and easily understandable. Olly was an inspiration and wealth of knowledge and it was an honour having a drink with him at Isurava on Anzac Day. Both our highlights were the moving ceremony at Brigade Hill. It still chills my blood to the bone. Surprise of the trip was food, quality and innovation.... Spamagania ohlala. Again our thanks, I was keen to turn around at Hoi and walk back, I will do it again with you and highly recommend to anyone out there Adventure Bound. Saw plenty of others trekking and NONE were as impressive as our push. Tim and Kerry, April 2026

Dear Adventure Bound Tours Team,
I wanted to sincerely thank you for the incredible experience during the 2026 Anzac Day Trek.
The entire trip was exceptionally well organised and truly unforgettable. A special mention must go to our guide, Mace, who was absolutely outstanding throughout the trek. His knowledge of the campaign, the history, and the significance of the locations we visited was remarkable and added so much depth and meaning to the experience. His passion and storytelling made the trek incredibly engaging and memorable for everyone involved. His compassion and encouragement towards my own personal struggles (of which there were many) was the reason why I was able to complete the trek. I honestly can’t thank him enough.
I also wanted to acknowledge the porters, who were incredibly impressive. Their hard work, professionalism, positivity, and support throughout the trek did not go unnoticed and were greatly appreciated. Davey is an extraordinary human, and I miss following his footsteps. Fonzy was truly “the hand of god” saving me more than once.
The trek was a very moving and rewarding experience, and your team played a huge role in making it so special. Please pass on our thanks and appreciation to Mace and the entire crew.
Thank you again for such a well-run and meaningful adventure.
Damian, April 2026.

Day 9 and our two ANZAC groups have flown from Popendetta to Port Moresby. Then it was a visit to the Bomana War Cemetery to pay their respects before travelling to the International Airport ready for their flight back to Cairns and the comfort of the Novotel.Well done team, I know it's been a long couple of days 😁.

They have done it! Our two ANZAC groups walked together under the arches in Kokoda this afternoon having completed 96kms across the Owen Stanley Ranges. The day started with an ANZAC dawn service at Isurava where they joined other trekkers in paying their respects and commemorating the ANZACs and the fallen soldiers of the Isurava Battle. They also inspected the site where Bruce Kingsbury won the Victoria Cross, the only one awarded during the campaign. After the service, they started their walk to Isurava Village and then it was a long downhill stretch through many native gardens into the village of Deniki. Here they stopped to look out over Kokoda and its’ airstrip. They continued down to the beautiful village of Hoi for lunch and a refreshing swim, as it is very hot and clear today! Then it was only a 6km flat stretch to finally pass under the arches at Kokoda. After high fives and photos, they walked through Kokoda to the plateau where they inspected the battle site and the memorial, to learn about the 39th Bn epic battle to save Australia. Then it was a short walk to their campsite for the night, where they have taken off their boots for the last time and are celebrating with some cold drinks! Well done everyone, you deserve that drink! We have had some photos come through of the group this afternoon!

Day 7 and our groups left Templeton’s Crossing and Eora Creek campsites, which is one of the positions where the battle of Eora creek was conducted. There are still visible signs of the Australians defensive positions, the most predominant being a possible Australian mortar position where we will find a recently dug up cache of mortars and grenades. They kept following the spur into Eora creek where they inspected some remaining remnants of Australian and Japanese equipment left after the battle. Leaving Eora Creek, they climbed again up a steep open section to the beautiful village of Alola. Here they stopped for a well-deserved lunch cooked by our amazing porters. After a good rest and a hearty lunch, they continued to inspect Cons Rock, where surgeries were performed during the campaign. Then it was an easy short walk into the Isurava battle site and their campsite for the night. They had rain most of the morning. Everyone is doing well and looking forward to the Dawn service in the morning!

Day 6 and our two ANZAC treks arrived safe and well in camp this afternoon, after a relatively easy day on the track. This morning they started from different campsites but followed the same itinerary, with Benno's group an hour or so in front. They began with a short walk to Myola Lakes, which was a vital supply drop zone during the Kokoda campaign onto Bombers Camp to check out the B25 plane wreck there. They then headed through the Moss Forest, making their way up to the highest point of the track. They continued onto the Kokoda Gap, a reference point used by pilots in the campaign. They stopped at Dump 1 for a swim and some lunch, and maybe a spot of fishing by the porters. After lunch it was a bit further to Olly's groups campsite at Templeton's Crossing, named after Captain Sam Templeton who was one of the first to be killed during the early stages of the Kokoda Campaign. While Benno's group walked further down Eora Creek to camp along the river also. Everyone is doing really well and looking forward to ANZAC day!
