Gizil Aghaj is where Azerbaijan’s autumn skies get busy 🦅

Gizil Aghaj National Park is one of Azerbaijan’s richest birdwatching destinations, where lagoons, reedbeds, sandy shores and wetlands create a constantly changing scene for birdlife.

Autumn and spring are especially rewarding for spotting passing waders, raptors and waterbirds, with species such as Eurasian Spoonbills, Glossy Ibises, and Terek Sandpipers among the highlights. Come winter, the wetlands fill with huge numbers of waterbirds, including Greater Flamingos, Dalmatian Pelicans and Pygmy Cormorants 🦩

Located around 260 km south of Baku, this vast protected landscape is best explored slowly, with binoculars at the ready and plenty of time to watch the Caspian flyway unfold.

A birdwatching day here can bring a different sight with every turn 🔭

F1 WEEKEND IS ALMOST HERE 🏎️🔥

From 24–26 September 2026, Formula 1 engines will roar through Baku as the city turns into one of the world’s most electric race destinations.

Tickets are still available through the official UFC Baku / F1 Azerbaijan GP🇦🇿 website, so there’s still time to be part of the action.

And the excitement continues beyond the track.

On 24 September, Grammy Award winner Calvin Harris will headline the opening night at Baku Crystal Hall, starting at 20:00. The following evening, 25 September, global pop superstar KATY PERRY will take the stage at the same venue, bringing her spectacular live show to Baku.

Wings over the Caspian 🦉

Just 60 km from Baku, Absheron National Park is a haven for birders, where coastal wetlands and semi-desert landscapes meet along the Caspian flyway.

Scan the skies and shoreline for Great Cormorants, Grey Herons, Purple Herons, Great Egrets and Mute Swans, while Mallards and Green-winged Teal dabble in the wetlands 🦆 As autumn settles in, the Short-eared Owl comes out to hunt at dusk, one of the park’s few nesting owl species.

Grab your binoculars, this is one for the birding bucket list 🔭
