Radde’s Accentor (Prunella ocularis) is a high-altitude bird found from eastern Turkey to Iran and, in Azerbaijan, only in the remote mountains of Nakhchivan. This photo was taken in the Gamigaya area, close to 3,000 m, where the species lives among rocky slopes and alpine scrub.
Nakhchivan holds around 15 bird species that can only be seen in this region within Azerbaijan, making it a unique destination for birders. Radde’s Accentor is one of these key targets, together with Grey-necked Bunting, Red-tailed Wheatear, White-throated Robin, See-see Partridge, Upcher’s Warbler, Pale Rock Sparrow, Bimaculated Lark, Caspian Snowcock, Eastern Rock Nuthatch, and others are beautifully adapted to Nakhchivan’s open valleys, dry landscapes, and striking rocky plateaus.
