CBT In The News

CBT was recently praised in the Huffington Post. The article, which focused on travel in the Caucasus, singled out CBT for its work providing unique cultural experiences for travelers in Azerbaijan, saying "Although Azerbaijan made a concerted effort to welcome tourists to Baku for the recent Eurovision 2012 finals, it seems to have ignored the rest of the country. Paved roads are few and far between in some areas and accommodation options can be lacking. Luckily, Community Based Tourism Azerbaijan, an organization founded by former Peace Corps volunteers, has stepped in to fill some of the void, providing a great network of homestays and helpful information for tourists traveling outside of Baku."

Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan seem to be well-kept secrets from many Western travelers. With a fascinating history, a plethora of attractions and relatively low prices, the region shouldn't stay a secret for long.

CBT Site of the Week: Laza

Located high up in Azerbaijan's Gusar region near the Russia village, this small mountain village feels far from the blustery, dusty streets of Baku. In Laza, however, Lezgi dancing and the ubiquitous warm Azerbaijani hospitality are never far-- ready to serve you a hot cup of tea after a pleasant hike around Laza's waterfalls. Additionally, Laza is conveniently located near Azerbaijan's newly opened Shahdag ski resort and a good place to heal your bruises after a weekend of tumbling down the slopes.

CBT Site of the Week: Khinalig

In the coming months we’ll be highlighting a different CBT destination each week.

First up, the mountain village of Khinalig. Around 2000 people live in this “island on the mountains,” 2.3 KM above sea level. Looking to learn a new foreign language? Khinalig is the absolute best place to learn Khinalig, as it and a neighboring village are the only places in the world where it is spoken.

If the prospect of polyglottery doesn’t whet your wanderlust, watch our new Khinalig video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQiPpzd3tbo. Special thanks to Tim McNaught for his help in making this.
