Active Holidays Bosnia is an outdoor touring company located in Foca, Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has its roots in the 1980s. Indeed, the founders of this company go back to the very first white water rafting, canoeing and hiking tour provider in this entire region, which is today a very busy tourist hub.

Although Active Holidays Bosnia is now officially a tourist agency which provides full touring packages including guides, food and lodgings, it’s beginnings were much more humble. It all started with just a few white water rafts, kayaks and a campground by the Drina river. Today we have come some ways from those early beginnings, although we have retained our pioneering, innovative spirit.

Active Holidays Bosnia provides packages ranging from single day trips, to family packages, to extreme adventure tours which can span over 10 days in duration. Our young and dedicated team, with the assistance and guidance of decades of prior experience, have worked rigorously to create tour packages for groups of all shapes and sizes.

Our packages range from easy to difficult hikes, whitewater rafting and cycling, to even covering scientific and cultural topics such as Speleology and History. On our multi day tours, you could find yourself visiting ancient bridges and necropolis on the first day, free climbing on a sheer rock cliff the next and riding an ATV halfway up the tallest mountain in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the third.

Outside of the many activities on offer, we ensure that our customers are as comfortable and satisfied as they could possibly be. As all of our team are also avid adventurers, we are familiar with the feeling of coming home after a long day on the go. This is why we have also placed a lot of care in providing exceptional food and lodgings to accompany any planned activities.

Our tour packages begin in either outdoor or luxury lodgings, depending on customer preference. Both of these options are provided by our close friends and partners at “Hotel Kompas”. Both luxury and outdoor lodgings are located in Patkovia, which is a small hamlet on the left bank of the Drina river, in the near vicinity of the town Foca. Hotel Kompas is a newly renovated rustic hotel, which stands on the ruins of an old “Han” (or “Inn”) which is centuries old. The restaurant, or rather Brew-Pub, of Hotel Kompas is host to a rocky wall which dates back three centuries to the time of the original Inn which stood in its location.

Hotel Kompas is also host to a brewery, the Kompas Brewery, located on it’s grounds. The restaurant serves both traditional and international dishes of many types, and sources the vast majority of its ingredients locally – as mentioned this goes even as far as providing home-made beer and liquor. The rooms within the hotel are comfortable, ambient and peaceful and aside from the restaurant on the ground floor, guests will have access to the Taverna where drinks, snacks and entertainment are also provided.

Alternatively, guests can stay in wooden chalets by the river Drina. Here guests will also have access to a grand lawn with lawn games such as Petanque, badminton, football and others. The chalets are immediately on the river edge, and are accompanied by a summer kitchen as well as a small boating and canoeing area where guests are welcome to try water sports free of charge.

Multi-day tours don’t hang around the hotel for too long. On these tours you will stay at various locations along the way, from tents in pristine nature to domestic farms and other lodgings in the mountains and valleys of this hilly, beautiful region.
