My first week in Colombia flew by mostly by sightseeing, looking for a more permanent place to stay, and looking for work. While I’ll leave accommodation and work related observances for another occasion, in this post I’ll focus on the city and its neighbourhoods.

Exactly a year and a half after leaving South America ( I spent 6 years living in Chile ) and disappointed by turn of events in and around my own homeland, I decided to give this fascinating continent another chance. This time, my destination is Colombia, and my plan is hmm…not to have one! 🙂

This trip started in Serbia’s capital Belgrade where I haven’t been for more than 20 years and that today has a reputation of one of the funnest cities in Europe. Later I spent a few days in Guča, small town in central Serbia where 55th annual trumpet festival was held. After that, I met with family in Drvengrad, a mountain village built by the filmmaker Emir Kusturica. Then for a few days I gave my lungs a break by enjoying mountain Zlatibor. I ended the Serbian experience by visiting Andrićgrad, another creation of Emir Kusturica, in fact located in Bosnia, but right next to the border with Serbia.

Not exactly sure where and how I decided that sooner or later I must experience this famous Balkan trumpeters festival. I guess living abroad for too many years, everything related to the Balkans, where my origins are, became “exotic”.

Travelling through Dalmatia, I decided to make a stop in Šibenik for one reason mostly – to learn a bit more about one quarter of my ancestors whose roots come from this town. From the town itself, I didn’t expect much.

Travelling through Dalmatia, I decided to make a stop in Šibenik for one reason mostly – to learn a bit more about one quarter of my ancestors whose roots come from this town. From the town itself, I didn’t expect much. Šibenik has a reputation of being a peaceful and fairly uninteresting town.
