Markale Massacre – February 5, 1994

Today, we remember one of the most tragic days in the history of Sarajevo. On this day, February 5, 1994, a mortar shell fired from the positions of the Army of Republika Srpska hit the Markale marketplace in Sarajevo, killing 68 innocent civilians and injuring 144.

This horrific crime remains a symbol of the suffering of Sarajevo’s citizens during the siege, which lasted 1,425 days and claimed thousands of innocent lives. We must never forget the victims, and it is essential to pass on the truth about these events to future generations.
