During visits to Srebrenica, we often meet members of the association Mothers of Srebrenica.
One of them is Fadila Efendić, who returned to Srebrenica after the war and continues to share her story with visitors who come to learn about the events of July 1995.
Near the cemetery in Potočari she runs a small flower shop. Many visitors stop there before entering the memorial to buy flowers to place on the graves.
It is a simple gesture, but also a way to support the people who have carried the memory of Srebrenica for decades.
When visiting the Srebrenica Memorial Centre, we always encourage our groups to stop there.

Visiting the Srebrenica Memorial Centre in Potočari.

During the visit, participants learn about the events of July 1995, the fall of the UN safe area, and the consequences of the genocide that took place in Srebrenica.

The Memorial Centre today serves as an important place of remembrance, education, and reflection for visitors from around the world.

Educational visits like this help younger generations understand the importance of memory, responsibility, and peace.

Srebrenica – July 1995

More than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were murdered in what became the only genocide recognized in Europe since World War II.

Today, the Srebrenica Memorial Centre stands as a place of remembrance and education.

Every year visitors from around the world come to learn, remember, and reflect.

Great to welcome - Beyond Srebrenica delegation back to Sarajevo — a group of students, teachers, and partners from Scotland learning about Bosnia’s history, the war, and the genocide of 1995.

Over several days, we visited key sites in Sarajevo and Srebrenica, met with survivors, and spoke with organizations working to preserve memory and promote peace.

Thanks to everyone at for hosting the group, and to the Beyond Srebrenica team for their continued cooperation and trust.

Today I had the pleasure of guiding 10 university professors through Sarajevo as part of their Erasmus+ Staff Exchange at the International University of Sarajevo.
We explored the layers of history, culture, and everyday life that make Sarajevo such a unique and resilient city.
