The BHTA extends hearty congratulations to Sanovnik Destang, Executive Director & Shareholder of Bay Gardens Resorts in Saint Lucia and current President of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA), on being named the recipient of the prestigious AAHOA/NABHOOD Outstanding Hotelier Award.

This distinguished honour, jointly presented by the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) and the National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators & Developers (NABHOOD), recognises hoteliers who exemplify exceptional leadership, innovation, and a commitment to creating opportunities within the hospitality industry. Recipients demonstrate vision, dedication, and the ability to elevate hotel performance and community impact.

This is a proud and historic moment for the region, as Sanovnik becomes the first Caribbean hotelier to receive this honour.

Destang, a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst, has played a key role in the rise of Bay Gardens Resorts, helping shape it into one of the Caribbean’s standout hospitality brands. His sharp business acumen and forward-thinking leadership earned him the role of CHTA President in 2024, where he continues to push for deeper regional collaboration and innovation across the industry.

Since entering the Caribbean hospitality scene in 2012, Destang has remained committed to driving meaningful change. As CHTA President, he’s focused on empowering people, leveraging technology, and building stronger connections between tourism and other sectors of the regional economy.

The award will be presented on July 23 at the 29th Annual International African American Hotel Ownership & Investment Summit in Miami.

Well done, President Destang. The BHTA salutes you 👏

Local chefs. Local farmers. One unforgettable food experience!

06/06/2025

On Sunday, June 8, our Chefs4Dev chefs are popping up again, and they’re bringing the flavour 🎉

If you caught us at Brighton Farmers’ Market last December, you already know these chefs turn local ingredients into mouthwatering delights. Now we’re back for another round of bold bites, creative twists and amazing culinary talent.

This Chefs for Development (Chefs4Dev) Culinary Pop-Up is a collaboration between the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). It aims to raise awareness of locally sourced produce by highlighting ingredients from our farmers and showcasing innovative ways to prepare and promote local food through the creativity of our chefs.
