Nicole Mao and Yuwei Zhu, Harvard graduates, co-founded Tiger New Energy during an extended stay in Bangladesh amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Their startup builds battery-swapping stations for millions of electric rickshaws, saving drivers time and increasing their income. By connecting stations to power grids and adding solar panels, the system also addresses load-shedding issues.

With funding from ADB Ventures and Wavemaker Partners, the startup has established 100 stations in Chattogram and aims to expand to 1,000 by next year and 2,000 by 2025. Despite political and economic challenges, the founders see Bangladesh's untapped demand as a major opportunity, while planning further expansion into Nepal and India.
