মালদ্বীপে একসময় রাত নামলেই শুরু হতো এক অন্যরকম যুদ্ধ।

আজ যে Maldives-কে আমরা দেখি—নীল পানি, ছোট ছোট দ্বীপ আর overwater villa প্রায় ৫০০ বছর আগে এই দ্বীপগুলোই ছিল এক দখলদারিত্বের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াইয়ের জায়গা।

১৫৫৮ সালে Portuguese বাহিনী Maldives দখল করে নেয়।কিন্তু সবাই সেটা মেনে নেয়নি।
একজন Maldivian নেতা, Mohamed Thakurufaanu, তাঁর দুই ভাই Ali ও Hassan-এর সঙ্গে শুরু করেন resistance।

তাঁদের কৌশলটাও ছিল বেশ অদ্ভুত।

রাতের অন্ধকারে নৌকায় করে কোনো একটি দ্বীপে পৌঁছাতেন, Portuguese বাহিনীর ওপর আক্রমণ করতেন—তারপর ভোর হওয়ার আগেই সেখান থেকে সরে যেতেন। এভাবে চলতে থাকে বছরের পর বছর।

শেষ পর্যন্ত ১৫৭৩ সালে Portuguese শাসনের অবসান ঘটে, আর Thakurufaanu পরবর্তীতে Maldives-এর Sultan হন।

আজও তিনি Maldivian history-র অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ঐতিহাসিক চরিত্র হিসেবে স্মরণীয়।

আর তাঁর জন্মস্থান Utheemu Ganduvaru আজও Maldives-এর একটি historical site—যেখানে সেই সময়ের কাঠের স্থাপত্য ও ঐতিহাসিক নিদর্শন দেখা যায়।

তাই Maldives শুধু beach আর blue water-এর গল্প নয়।
প্রতিটি island-এর পেছনে লুকিয়ে আছে একটা history. 🌊
