Go to the very end of Bangladesh where the mighty Brahmaputra enters from India. Sleep on a char island in the middle of this trans-boundary river that starts its 2,900km journey from Manas Sarovar near Mt. Kailash in Tibet.
Itinerary: Dewanganj - Kurigram Border - Rowmari
Day 1: Friday - Dhaka to Dewanganj to the Chars
• 07:30 AM - AC train from Dhaka Kamalapur. We take Tista Express 707 Dhaka to Dewanganj Bazar. • ∼12:30 PM - Arrive Dewanganj Bazar. Transfer to our private reserve troller / houseboat. • Afternoon cruise north towards Kurigram. This is the real Brahmaputra / Jamuna — wide, wild, full of char islands. See char villages, cattle, fishing nets, and life that exists only on the river. • Fresh lunch on board, unlimited tea-coffee. • Evening - The boat anchors at a sandy river island (char). Fish BBQ with fresh catch from the Brahmaputra, bonfire, stargazing. Overnight on the boat.
Day 2: Saturday - Border to Dhaka
• Sunrise on the river. Breakfast on board while cruising further north. • Reach Rowmari, Kurigram — the last navigable point at the Bangladesh-India border. The end of the country by water. • Walk on border chars, meet locals, understand this mighty trans-boundary river system. • Disembark at Rowmari. Afternoon bus to Dhaka. Rowmari is ∼336km from Dhaka, 7-8 hours by road with direct buses. • Night arrival in Dhaka.
