Malaysia emerged as Asia’s most-visited and most-loved country in Q1 2025, welcoming over 10 million international travellers and nearly 1.8 million visitors from China. The surge is credited to stepped-up visa relaxations (including extended Chinese visas and temporary Indian visa-free entry through 2026), targeted influencer campaigns on platforms like WeChat, and a family-friendly tourism push that blends city life, beaches and nature. Singapore remained a top source market for arrivals, but Malaysia’s mix of accessibility, diverse cuisine and modern infrastructure helped it overtake regional rivals such as Thailand and Indonesia in early-2025. Authorities now aim to sustain growth through digital marketing and continued visa facilitation.
