Subject: Condemnation of the Detention of Bangladeshi Photographer Shahidul Alam by Israeli Forces
We are deeply concerned to learn about the reported detention of Bangladesh’s internationally acclaimed photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam by Israeli authorities during a humanitarian flotilla mission.
Shahidul Alam has spent his life documenting injustice, amplifying the voices of the oppressed, and defending human rights. His work as a photographer has been a powerful instrument for truth, courage, and accountability.
According to news reports:
Shahidul Alam was part of a humanitarian aid flotilla — a vessel named Conscience — carrying medical supplies, nutrition, and other urgent humanitarian aid intended for Gaza.
The flotilla was intercepted by Israeli authorities while at sea.
Independent verification of his current location and condition is limited.
This incident, whether an interception or detention, is a serious concern for freedom of expression, humanitarian work, and human rights.
We, the National Human Rights Crime Reporter Foundation, firmly demand:
1️⃣ Immediate clarification of Shahidul Alam’s condition and location by the relevant authorities.
2️⃣ International attention and intervention by the United Nations, International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), and other global human rights organizations to ensure his safety and protection.
3️⃣ The Government of Bangladesh must raise this matter diplomatically to ensure the protection of its citizen.
Shahidul Alam is not only a photographer — he is a symbol of truth, conscience, and the voice of the voiceless. Protecting him is protecting the dignity and conscience of our nation.
