🚨IMPORTANT AQUACULTURE SURVEY CLOSING SOON

The European Commission has tasked the EU Aquaculture Assistance Mechanism (AAM) with preparing a background paper entitled “Attracting investments for aquaculture – competitive and sustainable production growth.”

The objective of this work is to identify the main barriers to accessing finance, highlight enabling factors, showcase successful financing examples, and propose policy and investment approaches to improve access to finance for the EU aquaculture sector.

To support this, a survey has been launched targeting aquaculture producers across the EU, aiming to gather insights on funding needs, experiences in accessing finance, and the key challenges encountered.
We encourage all aquaculture companies — both SMEs and larger businesses — to contribute:
https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/attractinginvestmentsforaquaculture_producerquestionnaire

Your input will help identify practical solutions and inform future EU policy and investment frameworks.

🔹Estimated completion time: 10–15 minutes

🔹Responses will be treated confidentially and analysed in aggregated form only

🔹Deadline: 26 April 2026

Your contribution is important to ensure that the sector’s realities are fully reflected in upcoming EU initiatives.

❗️New plan announced to curb hashtag impacts on fisheries, following the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union and European Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Advisory Commission (EIFFAC) "Conference on Management Advice to Reduce Cormorant Predation Impacts."👇

🌊 EU stakeholders convened to tackle the impact of great cormorant populations on fisheries and aquaculture. This event in Brussels brought together over 230 delegates from 35 countries, representing a diverse array of interests from fisheries, aquaculture, environmental policy and conservation.

📈 The great cormorant population in Europe has surged from around 50k birds in the 1970s to over 2M today. While this growth reflects successful conservation efforts, it has also led to unintended consequences, including significant predation on fish stocks threatening the economic viability of aquaculture and fisheries across the continent.

💼 , Deputy Minister for Fisheries of Poland, highlighted the transboundary nature of this issue and stressed the need for international coordination, Raymon Van Anrooy, Secretary of EIFAAC insisted on the evident economic toll, with freshwater aquaculture production in the EU suffering cormorant predation and having decreased by 19% since 1990.

📝 A key outcome of the conference was the proposal for a framework European management plan for the great cormorant, developed by the EIFAAC. This adaptive plan aims to balance the conservation success of the cormorant with the need to protect fish stocks, endangered species, and the livelihoods of fishers and farmers.

🔍 The plan, which will be finalized and submitted to the European Parliament, involves scientific information gathering, analysis, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. It seeks to ensure that the success of one species does not come at the expense of ecosystem balance and Europe’s food security.

🌍 Raschad Al-Khafaji, Director of the FAO Liaison Office with the EU and Belgium, emphasized the complexity of conserving and sustainably using biodiversity and natural resources, noting that policies must adapt to resolve conflicts and maintain ecological balance.

🌟 This initiative is a crucial step towards harmonizing conservation efforts with economic and ecological needs of Europe's waterways, contributing to broader goals such as the and , Strategy, and the for 2030.

🪶Next: the Tallin conference:
🗓️on June 17th and 18th , Eurofish International Organisation will hold the “Predators and Invasive Species - A Threat or a Business Opportunity” conference in Tallinn, Estonia: https://lnkd.in/e7xYmuHD

💧🌳🐟On this , we’re highlighting the positive contribution of and to better balanced and sustainable food production systems.

🌍In our FEAP , we show how fish farming scores on and use: it is the most sustainable food production system and less demanding on resources.

❤️We believe can be a driver for change in reaching our goals, paving the way to healthy and sustainable food production systems globally. Embrace aquaculture!
