🔄 A look back at the !

A wonderful summer has come and gone, but the memories remain. A big thank you to all our partners, and a special mention to Suaci Montagn'Alpes, whose support made this 2026 edition such a resounding success!

If you were unable to join us in Sallanches last July, the after movie is now available, featuring local, regional, national and European stakeholders from across Europe, united in their support for extensive mountain livestock farming and 🥳

🎙️ Hear from Michel Fournier, Minister delegated with responsibility for Rural Affairs; Sabrina Kogler from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture; Ivana Mardesic from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO); as well as Maryline Gerfaud and Alexis Bottolier-Depois, farmers in a pastoral cooperative (and so many others!)

The year 2026 is drawing to a close, but the is not yet over 🐑 So let’s continue to work together to ensure that these messages are heard and taken on board, just like those of the Sallanches Declaration!

In Europe, 13% of all holidays taken by European citizens are spent in mountain areas, and the Alps alone receive 95 million long-stay tourists and 60 million day-visitors each year 🧗‍♂️

The European Commission is expected to publish the first EU Strategy for Sustainable Tourism in 2026🌱

Euromontana welcomes the Commission’s steps towards addressing the challenges facing the tourism sector and highlights the need for an integrated, sustainable transition for mountain areas to ensure their long-term prosperity and resilience 🏔️

The 3rd LIFE Shepforbio International Conference “Pastoral Landscapes 2026” will take place on 23 and 24 September 2026 in Florence, Italy, bringing together researchers, pastoralists, institutions, policymakers and European networks to discuss the future of pastoralism.

🌿 Across two days, the conference will explore the links between pastoralism, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience and sustainable landscape management, with presentations, panel discussions, workshops and opportunities for exchange and networking.

[ ASSISES EUROPEENNES DE LA MONTAGNE ]

🏔️ Cette semaine, nos Jeunes Agriculteurs Haute-Savoie étaient présents à Sallanches, à l'occasion des XIV Assises européennes de la montagne, organisées conjointement par Euromontana et le Suaci Montagn'Alpes !

🗣️ Trois journées enrichissantes autour des enjeux liés au pastoralisme et à l’élevage de montagne à l’échelle européenne. Au-delà des tables rondes et séances plénières, les interventions ont insisté sur l’importance de la déclaration finale, présentée comme un texte structurant pour rappeler la nécessité d’assurer la continuité de ce métier et de mieux reconnaître sa valeur.

Le pastoralisme, c'est la pleine ouverture des paysages, à la vie locale et à l’économie des territoires, avec une nécessité de mieux valoriser cette contribution ! 🐮🐑🐐
Côté JA, la question du renouvellement des générations en agriculture, particulièrement forte dans les zones de montagne, a aussi été mise en avant avec la participation de nos représentants aux différents ateliers. 👩‍🌾👨‍🌾

Trois jours bien complets qui se sont terminé hier par une visite en alpage sur les hauteurs de Megève, à la recontre des exploitants du GAEC les Alpagistes, en présence du Député Européen, Jérémy Decerle. 🇪🇺

On that special day, we would like to highlight the importance of mountains for the society🌄

Mountains supply 40% of Europe's freshwater, host 43% of its Natura 2000 protected sites, and are home to communities that maintain biodiversity through farming and pastoralism every day.

At Euromontana, we advocate to make sure these territories, and the people who live in them, are properly recognised in European environmental policy and that mountains are part of the answer to Europe's environmental challenges, from protection to climate adaptation and water resilience 💡
