The 3rd LIFE Shepforbio International Conference “Pastoral Landscapes 2026” will take place on 23 and 24 September 2026 in Florence, Italy, bringing together researchers, pastoralists, institutions, policymakers and European networks to discuss the future of pastoralism.

🌿 Across two days, the conference will explore the links between pastoralism, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience and sustainable landscape management, with presentations, panel discussions, workshops and opportunities for exchange and networking.

[ ASSISES EUROPEENNES DE LA MONTAGNE ]

🏔️ Cette semaine, nos Jeunes Agriculteurs Haute-Savoie étaient présents à Sallanches, à l'occasion des XIV Assises européennes de la montagne, organisées conjointement par Euromontana et le Suaci Montagn'Alpes !

🗣️ Trois journées enrichissantes autour des enjeux liés au pastoralisme et à l’élevage de montagne à l’échelle européenne. Au-delà des tables rondes et séances plénières, les interventions ont insisté sur l’importance de la déclaration finale, présentée comme un texte structurant pour rappeler la nécessité d’assurer la continuité de ce métier et de mieux reconnaître sa valeur.

Le pastoralisme, c'est la pleine ouverture des paysages, à la vie locale et à l’économie des territoires, avec une nécessité de mieux valoriser cette contribution ! 🐮🐑🐐
Côté JA, la question du renouvellement des générations en agriculture, particulièrement forte dans les zones de montagne, a aussi été mise en avant avec la participation de nos représentants aux différents ateliers. 👩‍🌾👨‍🌾

Trois jours bien complets qui se sont terminé hier par une visite en alpage sur les hauteurs de Megève, à la recontre des exploitants du GAEC les Alpagistes, en présence du Député Européen, Jérémy Decerle. 🇪🇺

On that special day, we would like to highlight the importance of mountains for the society🌄

Mountains supply 40% of Europe's freshwater, host 43% of its Natura 2000 protected sites, and are home to communities that maintain biodiversity through farming and pastoralism every day.

At Euromontana, we advocate to make sure these territories, and the people who live in them, are properly recognised in European environmental policy and that mountains are part of the answer to Europe's environmental challenges, from protection to climate adaptation and water resilience 💡

📢New position paper just released! 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀?

While the EU is debating its future budget priorities, our new position paper highlights what is needed for the EU Livestock Strategy to support the sector in mountain areas 🏔️

The Strategy, announced in the State of the Union 2025, should:
👉Secure a bright economic future for mountain farmers
👉 Ensure territorial and production diversity as a foundation for resilient livestock systems
👉 Recognise the specificities of mountain agriculture and treating territorial diversity as a strength
👉 Supports environmental sustainability
👉 Ensure resilience to crisis: a socially just livestock sector and generational renewal.

As part of the Convention exhibition area, 20 selected posters and professional photographs will showcase innovative practices and successful experiences from across Europe, helping to make knowledge on extensive in mountain areas accessible and engaging for all participants 🏔️

We invite researchers, local and regional authorities, NGOs, photographers...to submit their contributions🌄

Practical information
- Posters must be in English or French
- Accepted formats: from A2 to A0
- Both vertical and horizontal layouts are accepted
- A maximum of 20 exhibition spots are available
- Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis
