📍 Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof

Around 130 long-distance trains stop here every day, with direct connections to cities like Paris, Marseille, Basel, Zurich, Milan and Prague!

And the station itself is worth looking at too: it opened in 1913, still has its original large steel train hall, and you can spot Art Nouveau details on the façade.

📍 Karlsruhe, Germany

This was my itinerary of the weekend:

Day 1
📍 Arrive at Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof
🏙️ Head into the city centre and explore Marktplatz and Pyramidenmarkt
🥗 Have vegan food at My Heart Beats Vegan
✨ In the evening, watch the Schlosslichtspiele at the palace*
💤 Stay at an eco-friendly hotel such as Hotel Rio

*Schlosslichtspiele are projected on the palace between Aug 13 - Sept 13

Day 2
🌿 Take public transport towards the station "Durlach Turmberg"
🥾 Walk the Naturpark AugenBlick route and enjoy the views
🍹 Have a wine and some food at the top at Anders auf dem Turmberg
🎨 Head back into the city and visit ZKM, the Center for Art and Media
🥨 Have dinner close to your hotel, we went to Café Bleu

Day 3
☕ Finish with some more time in the city centre
🚂 Catch your next train to continue South

Karlsruhe is such an easy stopover if you’re already travelling south by train, and I loved that the trip combined city, nature, food and culture without needing a car.
