Feminist perspective on Russia’s war in Ukraine: Hear Our Voices
Russia's invasion of Ukraine, driven by Putin's hypermasculine rhetoric on strong families and traditional values, urges us to seek a feminist perspective for understanding the gendered impacts of the conflict. Examining how patriarchal structures influence experiences based on gender is crucial for inclusive peace-building. Adopting feminist theorising on war expands our understanding of the conflict. This event delves into traditional war studies while pushing the boundaries of epistemology, methodology, and even ontology. It invites a discussion on the reinforcement of traditional masculinity and militarism during the war, perpetuating violence and domination. It is also a call for an understanding of the way patriarchal structures and norms may shape the conflict's dynamics and impact the experiences of different individuals based on their gender. Notably, the active participation of women and LGBTQ individuals in various spheres during the conflict deserves recognition, emphasising their crucial roles and providing them with the space and voice they deserve.
