After 75 years the Trappist abbey brewery of Westvleteren decided to reintroduce labels on the beer bottles in order to comply with all legal obligations as it was impossible to put all the required information on the crown cork. Beer Experience takes place on June 17 and 18 at Waagnatie Expo & Events in Antwerp. The new two-day event aimed at engaging with others and sharing knowledge, not only amongst brewers but also between brewers and their suppliers. Beer Experience is destined to become a meeting point between beer industry members from the Benelux countries and their immediate neighbours in northern France, western Germany and southern England. In the industrial buildings of the Waagnatie complex, located on the banks of the river Schelde in Antwerp, your thirst for knowledge will be slaked during an event that will place beer at the centre of the attention it deserves. Martin’s Pale Ale from Brewery John Martin - The Finest Drinks Company is now brewed at Antwerpse Brouw Compagnie renowned for their Seefbier and other traditional beers from Antwerp. Martin’s Pale Ale was created by John Martin who got a profound knowledge of English Pale Ales at Robert Porter’s Brewery. The beer first called Bulldog’s Pale Ale was later renamed Martin’s Pale Ale (5.8% ABV). Impressions of caramel, chocolate and malt define this mild slight salty English Pale Ale brewed with Fuggle and East Kent Golding hops Martin’s India Pale Ale 55 (6.5% ABV) brewed with 5 hops has grapefruit, orange, black berry, resin and floral accents in the nose. The new Chimay Grande Réserve (10,5% ABV) is a Chimay Bleue matured in whisky barrels from Stokerij (distillery) De Molenberg for 8 months and refermented in the bottle. The distillery belongs to the owners of the Mechelen based family brewery Het Anker, renowned for their Gouden Carolus beer range. Elderflower, violet, banana and pear are amongst the typical aromas of the Chimay Grande Réserve 2022 with impressions of vanilla, coconut, caramel and chocolate in the taste and a long, smooth aftertaste.

The 200 year-old Belgian lambic brewery Lindemans has invested 28 million euro in their second state of the art Lindemans Satellite Brewery in nearby Ruisbroek. Starting this autumn they will produce top fermented beers such as sours containing genuine lambic there. With a second production site they are sure to keep up with the growing demand in export markets such as China, the US and France with exports accounting for 70% of sales. Furthermore the new facility will allow for more experimentation and the rapid launch of smaller batches, increasing flexibility in a volatile beer industry. Last but not least, 16,500 hls of lambic will be stored in tanks of 500 hls each. In the main brewery 70,000 hls of lambic is stored in tanks and 200,000 ls matures in 20 (very) big wooden barrels. Brewery Timmermans launched their first Oude Schaarbeekse Kriek named Griotteke. The oldest lambic brewery in the world celebrating its 320th anniversary this year invests in the tradition of brewing with hand picked sour cherries for a limited edition of 6,000 bottles of ruby red fruit lambic. The local artist Lauranne van Naemen designed the label on the black bottle. A part of the sales revenue will be invested in planting the typical Schaarbeek cherry trees. The community of Schaarbeek belongs to the city of Brussels.

The La Cambre abbey beers from the former historic abbey in Brussels launched 8 years ago are now brewed by brewery Het Anker in Mechelen. La Cambre Blond (6.3% ABV) and La Cambre IPA (4.9% ABV) are lower in alcohol than the renowned Gouden Carolus beers from Het Anker.

A sneak preview of the brand new Brasse-Temps brewpub from brewery Dubuisson in Charleroi in shopping mall Ville 2 near a cinema. 250 seats for beer lovers enjoying Bush, Cuvée des Trolls and other Dubuisson beers with or without a meal. The Cuvée des Trolls is brewed on the spot just like some experimental brews. Dubuisson have invested 1.7 million euros. Opening on February 4th.
