New light for Lyulin mountains "New light for Lyulin mountains" is a project about the conservation of the nature of the mountains Lyulin(and not only) of Western Bulgaria

We are a team of young Bulgarians with international experience. We firmly believe that the mountains of Western Bulgaria and Lyulin in particular have a great potential to become not only a popular tourist destination, but an area with a lot of opportunities for outdoor activities. Lyulin mountains are located 10-15 km west of Sofia.The cities Pernik and Bankya, the neighbourhoods of Bankya - Gra

doman, Mihaylovo, Ivanyane, Klisura, the neighboorhood of Sofia - Lyulin, Gorna Banya and the villages Gurmazovo, Pozharevo, Zlatusha,Delyan, Raduy, Rasnik, Meshtitsa and Mala Rakovitsa are located on the foot of the mountains. Because of economical and geographical factors like its remoteness from the capital, the economic crisis, the technological progress which motivate people to spend more time indoors, the mountains are getting desert in the past 10-15 years. We see the change of this situation in organizing different activities, like trips, outdoor activities for kids, cleaning actions, making a current map, marking the touristic routes and many others..

Lyulin hut is situated in the heart of the mountain, between Bankya city and Lyulin village. There is a path through the forest starting from Mihaylovo and an asphalted way starting from Lyulin village. This is how the hut looked like in its years of glory. It was constructed in 1962 and was a shelter for numerous tourists for about 21 years. Since 1983 the hut is abandoned. One of our goals is its renovation.

Unfortunately there is no change in the weather forecast for heavy rainfall in the weekend. Because of this the trip planned for this Sunday will be cancelled.

Today the first trip for season autumn 2015 was held. The participants were three members of the team of the project "New light for the Lyulin mountains". We climbed the Crooked stone peak and filled our bags with hawthorn, dog-rose, Cornelian cherries and blackthorn. Pictures from the trip will be uploaded soon on our page.
The next trips are planned for the following 2 Sundays. The planned routes are Gradoman- Bonsovi meadows for next Sunday, 11 October and Gradoman-Dupevitsa for the Sunday after, 18 October. Due to forecast for heavy rainfall in the second half of the next week, a cancellation of the first trip is very possible.
