Do you know the history of St.Vlas?

🏛️ Ancient Origins
The region around St. Vlas was originally inhabited by Thracians as early as the 2nd millennium BCE.

Later, it became part of the Greek colonization efforts. The nearby area, including Nessebar (ancient Mesembria), was an important Greek polis.

🇷🇴 Roman and Byzantine Periods
During Roman rule (1st–4th centuries CE), the region was part of the province of Moesia. The town was likely part of trade and military routes. The area retained strategic importance due to its proximity to Constantinople.

✝️ Medieval Christian Settlement
The name "Sveti Vlas" (Saint Vlas) comes from Saint Blaise, a Christian martyr and patron saint of livestock and healers.

A monastery dedicated to Saint Vlas was built around the 14th century. It was later destroyed by Ottoman raids but gave the town its lasting name.

🕌 Ottoman Rule (14th–19th centuries)
Under Ottoman control from the late 14th century, the village was known as "Küçük Manastır" (Little Monastery), referencing the old Christian monastery.

🇧🇬 Modern Bulgarian Era (Post-1878)
After Bulgaria's liberation from Ottoman rule in 1878, Sveti Vlas began developing slowly. It was officially declared a town only in 2006, reflecting its transformation into a modern resort destination.

Today, St. Vlas is a popular resort town known for its unique weather, beneficial for respiratory illnesses.

Near the Stone Forest in Varna have been found the only evidence fo human life during the Mesolithic (Middle Stone Age - 10th-7th millennium BC)

There are a number of deposits of microliths (flint objects), which show that there was human habitation by groups of hunters who seasonally stayed in these places during hunting expeditions.
