The Amazon forest day - the largest one and the one disappearing so quickly that soon nothing will be left!

Today is Amazon Day, a day to celebrate the world’s largest rainforest and highlight the threats it is facing.

The Amazon is an incredible and special place, it is one of the most biodiverse places on earth, it also stabilises the climate and plays a critical role in global & regional water cycles.

This vital habitat is unfortunately under threat, reports indicate that in the last 40 years the Amazon rainforest has lost more than 18% of its rainforest to illegal logging, soy agriculture, and cattle ranching.

This vast and precious rainforest spans eight countries and is home to some of our most beloved parrots, loss of important habitats such as the Amazon rainforest is one of the many reasons why parrots are the most threatened bird groups in the world.

World Parrot Trust is working to protect the world’s most threatened parrots and the spaces they call home, you can learn more about the programs that you help to support here > https://www.parrots.org/projects

World Parrot Day 31st May

Together with the birds of paradise, the parrots are the most beautiful and charismatic birds on the planet Earth.

Of the 398 known species of parrots, 18 are critically endangered, 39 are endangered, and 55 are vulnerable, according to the IUCN Red List.

The nature destruction and wildlife trade are the main danger for them, along with volcanos and hurricanes. So please consider these reasons and do your best to protect and support the parrots all over the planet.

The great thing is that there are also many successful project and stories where many species of parrots are recovering starting with the Spixs Macaw of which the first 12 will be released in the wild caatinga in the NE Brazil on 11th of June, the Lears Macaw, the Kakapo and many others. Thank you very much to all the people who are working to save the parrots. Support them and enjoy them too!

Just realized that Indonesia will move its current capital Jakarta into the eastern part of Borneo. Currently the costs are estimated at $ 32 billions. For sure, large parts of the last pristine jungles on the planet will be obviously destroyed. What a shame!

Indonesia has named its new capital Nusantara, as lawmakers approve the shift from Jakarta to Kalimantan -- a jungle-covered area on the east of Borneo island.

Sad, sad, sad - no more Rutland Birdfair, after we been there since 2004!!!

Sad, sad, sad - no more Rutland Birdfair, after we been there since 2004!!!

After careful consideration, Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust have made the difficult decision to stop running Birdfair.

The effects of the global pandemic have had a significant effect on our daily operations as a charity and Birdfair operations have contributed to these financial concerns. Other worries including the carbon footprint generated by the event and the longer-term impact it has on Rutland Water Nature Reserve itself, have all led to our decision.

We are sad to end our involvement with Birdfair after more than 30 years. Along with working with our co-promoter, the RSPB, we have brought thousands of visitors to Rutland Water Nature Reserve and raised more than £5 million for overseas projects run via the Birdlife International group of charities. We are immensely proud of this achievement for global wildlife conservation.

We must now turn all of our efforts to our core mission of saving, restoring, and connecting people with wildlife and habitats across Leicestershire and Rutland.

We would like to thank all who have supported or been involved with Birdfair over the years, including our partners, sponsors, exhibitors, contractors, presenters, volunteers, members and staff. The event could not have existed without their dedication.

Even more colors on the next day. They brought a great pleasure even for a short time. Just a shame on me for the Ortolan Bunting as it is out of focus, otherwise it would have been simply wonderful on the famous Bulgarian roses - a reason to return soon to that site!

Rosy-collored Friday :)
Every 3 or 4 years these beautiful birds come to Bulgaria in big numbers and breed in large colonies.
It is a great pleasure to watch and photograph them. The last one is relatively easy as they do not bother, as long as the photographers has the right aproach and keep the needed distance and behaviour.
