CHALALÁN Albergue Ecológico is the first community ecotourism enterprise in Bolivia, belongs to the indigenous people of San José de Uchupiamonas and is located inside the Madidi National Park, the most biodiverse of the planet. It is located on the banks of the Chalalán lagoon, from where comes the name of the hostel, with beautiful huts built in traditional Tacana style, adapted for the tourist
service with the best conditions; The walls of the cabins are of the chonta palm (Iriartea deltoidea), the roofs are jatata leaves (Geonoma deversa) and hardwood floors that make CHALALÁN an exclusive and cozy place. We also have a solar panel system that provides clean energy to the cabins at 220V all day, ideal for recharging cameras and flashlights. HISTORY
A young Israeli, lost alone in the jungle was rescued by the indigenous people of San José de Uchupiamonas. The story of Yossi Ghinsberg became world-famous and his book "Jungle" impels thousands of visitors to the region. The Uchupiamonas, an indigenous village of the Madidi and their ancestral custodians were employed as cheap labor to hire, so the community leaders dreamed of Chalalan, their own eco-hostel, to manage and generate profits. Yossi and the villagers made the impossible, possible. Chalalan is the story of a miracle that changed the destiny and attitude of hundreds of indigenous communities throughout Bolivia. Chalalan is the most awarded and distinguished hostel in Madidi, owned, managed and operated by the Uchupiamonas themselves. LODGING
We have regular capacity for 30 visitors, with comfortable rooms with private bathroom, hot water for 10 of them, double, triple and triple rooms, equipped with mosquito nets and hammocks. FOOD SERVICE
We have the best fusion cuisine of the region, we serve buffet breakfasts, traditional and international dishes, and an authentic, delicious and refreshing meal. We have two clay ovens, one of them of high energy efficiency and the other of traditional design. ACTIVITIES
The main activity is the walk guided by the almost 30 km of trails of environmental interpretation, where the indigenous guides explain the biodiversity and ecological relations of the various species of the region in both English and Spanish. Also popular are the visits to the elevated viewpoint to admire and take fantastic photographs of the Madidi National Park and the Chalalán Lagoon. There are also canoe trips around the lagoon, where you can also swim during the day. You can also do sport fishing, night walks in search of frogs, caimans and other species of nocturnal activity or rest in the hammocks, enjoying the landscape. INDIGENOUS PEOPLE
