I´m Your Pal in Rio Hello there!

What can I tell you about me? My name is Claudio and I was born in Rio in the beginning of the eighties. I´ve lived here my whole life. Not on the same spot, though. As matter of fact, I´ve lived in 15 different address in Rio. (And no, my parents do not own a moving company if you’re wondering about it). On the brightside, this has led me to a great amount of new corners in Rio. I´ve studied jour

nalism and business administration and also I like to travel. A lot. I even blog about it here – So far I´ve been in more than 30 countries, but I always return back home safe and sound to watch the sunset in Ipanema again. I run a corporate events company alongside my beloved wife Claudia. I´m not kidding, we really have the same name. But at least we laught about it. And if you´re beer fan like myself, there´s a great chance that we’ll wrap up the day in my prefered bar. See you soon!

Have you heard of the neighborhood Urca? It is one of the smallest neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro. It has only six squares with 16 streets and is surrounded by Guanabara Bay. Small beaches, beautiful houses and colorful sea landscape with Cristo 😍😍😍..
In Urca you find the famous Sugar Loaf, but there is a lot more to enjoy that all the tourists on the top of Pão de Açúcar don’t know exist. We will stop in the beautiful Praia da Urca and then continue the walk until the end of the road, where we will stop to sit down with the sea at our feet, sharing a good cold beer as we chat and enjoy the beautiful colours of Rio’s afternoon 😎✌🍻..

Beloved by the people, it’s one of the most famous and beautiful churches of Brazil. The Nossa Senhora da Candelária church receives a hundreds of tourists every day, and it’s located where there are a lot of cultural interest on the city. Next to the Church, you find Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, Centro Cultural Correios and Casa França Brasil, very insteresting cultural spots 😍😍😍..
The Candelaria Church is the Rio de Janeiro’s first church dating from 1630. It went through a series of reforms to reach the current model, which opened in 1898.
The original design remains only on its beautiful stone facade with a limestone dome. The neoclassical interior is all covered in marble and features vivid color stained glass, stunning paintings that are distributed through the roof of the aisles and dome, and doors richly worked in cast bronze 😯..
Also, there are many other amazing spots to visit in the downtown area, such as: the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Art Museum of Rio, the Tomorrow Museum, the Municipal Theater, the National Library, the Royal Portuguese Cabinet of Reading, among others 😉🤗..

A statue of Clarice Lispector, a celebrated modernist author in Brazil, has become a popular photo spot in Rio since its inauguration. Born in Ukraine in 1920 and later naturalized a Brazilian citizen, Clarice has been described as among the most important Jewish writers since Franz Kafka. Acclaimed internationally for her innovative novels and short stories, she was also a journalist. The real-size bronze statue of the writer and her dog Ulysses is located in Leme 📸😍🐶..
Lispector’s statue is the fourth bronze statue along the extended Copacabana promenade, including those of the celebrated poet Carlos Drumond de Andrade, composer Ary Barroso, and singer-composer Dorival Caymmi.

Forte de Copacabana (Copacabana Fort) was inaugurated in 1914 with the purpose of increasing the defense of Guanabara bay. In 1986 its military function was finished and it turned into Army History Museum to honor the memory of the Brazilian Army, as well as to serve as a cultural space for its visitors 😯..
At the southern tip of Copacabana Beach sits this military base, open to the public and blessed with an incredible view across the sea towards Sugarloaf. Also housing the Museum of Army History, the underwater corridors of the defences are an interesting stroll...
You can find the delicious Confeitaria Colombo (check our last post) at the Fort, offering the perfect spot for brunch on a sunny day 😎😎😎..
Simply sitting on the stools facing the beach, feeling the sea breeze and looking at the people stand up paddling is already nice enough. But walking over the dome at the tip of the Fort is even better ✌..
There, you find not only a handful of cannons installed in revolving domes, but also – or especially – a beautiful view of the ocean 😉..

A big part of any trip is the different food you are able to try. It is a important section of the cultures. Talking about Rio's beaches without mentioning these two things (Biscoitos Globo and Mate Leão) is like going to France and not trying the wine... 😎✌..
Matte Leão is like a sweet and very refreshing iced tea. You can find in cups or bottles in supermarkets and restaurants, or in galloons at the beaches. In most cases, you will see people drinking their Mate while eating the iconic Biscoito Globo (only in Rio!), a local brand of a crunchy, savory baked snack made from a manioc starch known as “polvilho”. At the beach, you can mix lemonade with the Matte and it tastes even better. Drink it while eating Biscoito Globo and take this classic picture. It is safe, light (you won’t feel full after eating the whole package) and quite affordable! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼..
Although you will probably find different kinds of “biscoito de polvilho” (polvilho snack) all over Brazil, you will only find Biscoito Globo in Rio. And the reason of that is that the Biscoito Globo company decided to sell it only here 😯
It is been such a success since 1954, that the company don’t spend a single pennie in advertising, it is just not necessary!
The color of the package identifies the flavour, red for the sweet and green for the salty! 😍😉..

The Carioca Aqueduct, or better known as Arcos de Lapa (the arches of Lapa) are famous nowadays in Rio de Janeiro for being an easy meeting point before a night out in Lapa, a hotspot for late night street after-parties, and for an awesome touristy photo in Rio 😎..
Yet the history of these arches dates back to the 17th century and served a very different purpose to what they do today. The aqueduct served an important role in supplying the city with fresh water, with its main water supply coming from the Carioca river...
The carioca aqueduct starts in the city center and continues up to Santa Teresa. They cross over the main strip of Lapa called Avenida Mem da Sa which is the main street for bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Nearby are the famous steps of Lapa (Escadaria Selarón) and each weekend the arches overlook hundreds of people as they gather to enjoy the many street parties that happen under the arches, with music and dancing until the sun comes up 😉😍..
Whilst at night it comes alive, daytime Lapa is underground and raw, with jaw-dropping street art decorating the aged buildings 🤗 ✌..

When visiting Rio de Janeiro it is almost impossible not to have a connection with the Tijuca National Park. First because of the world-famous statue of the Christ the Redeemer is located in the park 😉..
One of the largest urban forests in the world, it was established in 1861 by Emperor Pedro II to reforest the area affected by deforestation caused by sugarcane and coffee cultivation. This area of Tijuca National Park gather many attractives, such as the Pico da Tijuca, Pico do Papagaio and Cascatinha Taunay...
This preserved part of Atlantic Forest is visited by Cariocas and tourists for the practice of sports, strolls and walking. Birds, native plants and fruitful trees compose the flora and the fauna of Tijuca Forest. It also has 30 waterfalls within its depths, the most famous being Cachoeira do Horto. The cascading water is relatively high yet not powerful, making it perfect to take a cool, refreshing shower under. The pool in front is shallow enough to sit inside and lounge the day away in a natural bliss. Known as ‘The Heart of Rio de Janeiro‘, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (Lagoa) is a natural lake in the south zone of the city that is renowned for its tranquility and beauty. It’s surrounded with a cycle path, trees and other vegetation and framed by a mountainous skyline that creates the most jaw-dropping sunsets ❤..
Lagoa is a lake located in the upscale neighborhood Lagoa, just a few blocks away from the beaches in Ipanema and Leblon. It occupies an enormous space of 2.4 million square-meters and attracts various wildlife such as different species of birds, plants and wild capybaras. It is also a key site for rowing clubs, and it’s common to see rowing athletes practicing out on the water 🚴‍♀️⛹️‍♂️..
The 7.38 kilometer cycle path that encircles the lake caters for a variety of different sports and residents take to the concrete path and grass patches to run, cycle, skateboard, practise yoga or do some other kind of sports and activities around the lake. Bikes are available to hire at most points in Lagoa and offer a great way to get around and explore.
