One of my favourite places in Brazil…

The Serra dos Órgãos National Park sits between Petrópolis, the Imperial City, and Teresópolis, and the whole region is ridiculous. Huge rock formations, Atlantic rainforest, waterfalls, natural pools, rock climbing, trails everywhere and temperatures that are usually a lot cooler than down in Rio.

I absolutely love it up there and it’s only one hour from Rio!

This was from the Petrópolis to Teresópolis crossing. I’d already done it over three days with the Imperial Trekking team, which was incredible because you actually have time to stop, explore and take everything in.

This time a group of us from Rio decided to do the whole thing in ONE DAY. 😂

Completely different experience.

We left Rio at around 4am and basically spent the entire day moving. We couldn’t hang around for long at any of the viewpoints, but the scenery was magnificent, the energy was high and we somehow managed to catch this ridiculous sunset towards the end.

By the time we got down into Teresópolis my legs were absolute jelly. I think I finally got home at about 10pm. 😂

If you’re visiting Rio and have a few days to spare, I genuinely think the mountain region deserves to be part of the trip. If you want to do the crossing properly, check out the guys at Imperial Trekking. They organise the multi-day trek and can sort different packages depending on whether you need equipment, food, guides etc.

And if you’re thinking about doing Petrópolis to Teresópolis in one day…

Come prepared. 😂

Rio is ridiculously blessed when it comes to sunsets. 🌅

Here are 7 of my favourites. Save this for your trip 👇

📍 DOIS IRMÃOS
A proper sunset adventure. Hike up through Vidigal for one of the best views in Rio. If you go for sunset, I’d recommend going with someone who knows the route as you’ll be coming down in the dark.

📍 PARQUE DA CIDADE, NITERÓI
An amazing panoramic view back towards Rio. Make a day of Niterói, hit the beach, then finish here for sunset.

📍 IPANEMA
Grab a drink, sit on the sand and watch the colours behind Dois Irmãos. Check Kiosque Galalau too, they often have sunset events.

📍 LAGOA
One of the most relaxed options. Walk, cycle or just sit by the water and watch the colours reflect across the lagoon.

📍 MURETA DA URCA
Grab a b**r, sit on the wall and watch the colours change over Guanabara Bay. Also check Morro da Urca / Pão de Açúcar for sunset DJ events.

📍 MURETA DO LEME
Quieter than Ipanema or Arpoador, with a great view along Copacabana as the sky changes and the city lights come on.

📍 ARPOADOR
The classic. Rock, beach or promenade, there are loads of places to watch from. And yes, people really do clap when the sun goes down. 👏

Also worth checking out: Pão de Açúcar, Pedra Bonita, Morro do Leme, Copacabana Beach and Museu do Amanhã.
