My biggest sword actually landed this time. On the Shimano Beastmaster. Fought this thing for 3 1/2 hours. Never in my life have I had to drive a boat so intense and focused. Racing forward, fast circles, full reverse, trimming the motor out of water after this fish made three attempts to run for the prop. Spent an hour of crazy boat maneuvers as the fish was 30ft under the boat. Hand cranking every inch closer to get a harpoon shot. Finally, it made one circle too close and I threw a long deep harpoon shot at it, a hailmary if you will. Stuck it in the spine. Fish went crazy as I tried to pull back on the harpoon rope, ripping it loose. I saw the fish bleeding out as it plunged into the abyss peeling line off the reel. Back down to 1600ft and stayed there. After another long while, the fish bled out at depth and I cranked up its body weight with each wave and roll of the boat. It finally surfaced dead. Secured another harpoon shot in it and landed this beast. With a fork length of 78 inches and girth of 43, it was probably 280lbs. What a day !
