🌀 Conch (pronounced konk) is a staple in Bahamian cuisine, served fresh in salads 🥗, cracked and fried 🍽️, or slow-cooked in stews 🍛. But it’s also a protected species. The Bahamas is one of the last places in the Caribbean where conch can still be legally harvested, thanks to conservation efforts.

🌸 Each conch takes up to 5 years to mature, and that stunning pink lip? It means it’s finally grown. Locals know to harvest only the mature ones, helping protect marine life for generations to come.

🌊 So next time you enjoy conch on your plate or spot one while snorkeling off Rose Island, know you’re experiencing a piece of Bahamian heritage, and helping preserve paradise when you do it responsibly.

Conch salad with a view like this? Just hits different. 🐚🌴☀️

Fresh, zesty, and full of island flavor, this Bahamian staple is more than just a snack… it’s a whole experience. Every bite tastes like sunshine, sea breeze, and good vibes. 🇧🇸

You’ll find conch salad all over the islands, and everyone has their own version, some like it extra spicy, others with a splash more citrus or a handful of tomatoes. No matter how you mix it, it’s a must-try when you’re here.

Want to bring the flavors of the Bahamas home with you? Here’s a simple version to try:

🥄 Conch Salad Recipe

1 lb fresh conch, diced

2 roma tomatoes, chopped

1 green bell pepper, finely chopped

1/2 small onion, finely chopped

1/2 cup fresh lime juice

1/4 cup orange juice

1 goat pepper or Scotch bonnet (optional but highly encouraged)

Salt to taste

Mix everything together, let it marinate for 30 minutes (or more), and serve chilled with a view if you’re lucky.
