Travel Lemming, a US-based online travel guide read by more than 6 million travellers, on 15 November announced its list of the top 50 destinations in the world for 2023.

Bhutan was named the best place to travel in Asia next year, and the number 2 destination overall in the world.

The annual list of 50 best places to travel highlights emerging destinations and hidden gems around the world.

Carissa Nimah, Chief Marketing Officer of The Department of Tourism, Bhutan commented: “Bhutan has long practiced a policy of ‘high value, low volume’ tourism to protect and preserve its peace, its sacred places and its wilderness. Bhutan is already an incredibly alluring destination ... yet there are still so many more layers to be revealed and shared.”

Nimah continued: “We invite all travelers to visit Bhutan to experience the inspiration, mystique, spirituality, adventure and energy of Bhutanese culture. It’s an honour for us to be included in the list of the best places to travel for 2023. Welcome to Bhutan.”
In explaining why Bhutan was selected, the article says Bhutan “Is a special place with breath-taking scenery and the freshest air you will ever inhale.”

The annual list is a collaborative project of the publication’s team of more than 25 travel writers and editors.
The top 10 destinations on the list are:
• 1 - Lafayette, Louisiana
• 2 - Bhutan
• 3 - Utila, Honduras
• 4 - Ile Sainte Marie, Madagascar
• 5 - Kosovo
• 6 - Salento, Colombia
• 7 - Vanuatu
• 8 - Lake Ohrid, North Macedonia
• 9 - Uzbekistan
• 10 - Detroit, Michigan

By region, the full list of 50 destinations includes 7 destinations in Europe, 5 in Asia, 4 in South America, 4 in Oceania, 4 in Africa, 6 in North America (besides the US), and 20 in the United States.

Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) is happy to inform that TCB will accept applications for inbound tourists, who are agreeable to stay in the facility quarantine for 21 days with the following conditions.
Interested inbound tourist to apply through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator.
Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) per person per night will be levied for the 21 days quarantine period.
Bear charges for 21 days facility quarantine (room & food).
Entry will be facilitated only for those coming via air.
Minimum Daily Package Rate (MDPR) will be applicable for the entire tour duration after the mandatory quarantine.
Bear the cost for all tests as per the COVID-19 requirement.
Strictly follow COVID-19 protocol and TCB guidelines.
Need to have insurance coverage.
Produce a COVID-19 negative certificate issued by a laboratory certified to carry out RT-PCR test, not earlier than 72 hours before embarking or the initiation of a journey from the country of origin.
In addition, it is encouraged to have both the doses of COVID-19 vaccine and also to check for other travel requirements if transiting through another country.

Bhutan to receive its first tourist next week after more than a year

After more than a year, Bhutan will receive its first tourist next week. She is an American who visited the country in 2019 as well. According to the Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB), there are many like her who have expressed their interest to visit Bhutan. However, they are yet to register with the council. As per a recent notification from the TCB, all incoming tourists will have to apply through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator. They will have to undergo the 21-day mandatory facility quarantine and also pay the daily sustainable development fee of USD 65 for the period. Moreover, they will be required to bear the charges for quarantine and COVID tests.
