Some local festivals in the country are considered very significant and are not to be missed. One such festival is the Dungkhar Ugyen Choling Goenpa Tshechu in Pema Gatshel’s Khar Gewog. During the festival, a skull known as “Aa Thoe” marked with the letter Aa (ཨ) is displayed. Devotees gather to receive blessings from this sacred relic while due tsi is served from it.

The Tshogki Lopen of the Central Monastic Body is presiding over the 11th annual Pema Gatshel Moenlam Chenmo starting today.

Hundreds of devotees gathered at the venue in Nganglam Middle Secondary School.

The five-day event will conclude with a Tshe-wang on Thursday.

In Pema Gatshel’s Chhokhorling Gewog, a women-led farmer’s group is paving the way for social development and individual progress in Kerong village. The group which is venturing into mushroom cultivation has successfully cultivated two mushroom varieties, set to hit the market soon. To address marketing challenges, they have plans to diversify their produce.

𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗿, 𝗣𝗲𝗺𝗮 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹

Mask dances during tshechus are usually performed by monks or trained mask dancers. However, over the years, some tshechus, especially those performed in the villages have been facing a shortage of mask dancers. In some places, if the villagers are lucky enough to keep the tradition going, youths come forward to address the shortage by getting trained to perform the mask dances. Similarly, in Pema Gatshel, the issue of not having enough mask dancers to perform during the Nangkor Tshechu has been addressed. Thanks to a group of students who stepped forward to learn the mask dances.

The Dzongkhag Administration, PemaGatshel is pleased to notify farmer groups, individual producers and agri-food processing units in the Dzongkhag to avail ‘Food processing and preservation training’ in Hyderabad, India. The training will be held from January 16 to 20, 2024 and all training expenses will be borne by the SHINE project.

People of Tenzinwama (Tanzama) and Satsaloo villages in Norbugang Gewog of Pema Gatshel are counting the days to drive on a paved farm road. The long-awaited blacktopping works are underway and are expected to be complete by June next year. Once complete, the farm road will be one of the first farm roads to be blacktopped in the district.
