The Chhu Dzong (Water Tower) at Jakar Dzong is a historic, still-functioning water reservoir behind the main fortress. Created around 1683, it serves as a "living water tower" and was established following a prophecy by the 4th Druk Desi, Gyalsay Tenzin Rabgye (1638–1696).
Gyalsay instructed them to dig in a specific area near the dzong, promising water would emerge. Upon digging, water appeared, and a chudzong (water storage house) was constructed to secure it. This holy water source, sometimes referred to as Tenzin Rabgye’s Drupchu (holy water), continues to sustain the fortress to this day.

The Paro Tshechu is one of Bhutan’s most sacred and vibrant celebrations, held in the beautiful valley of Paro.

The courtyard of the Rinpung Dzong comes alive with a stunning display of colours—traditional dances, each movement carrying symbolic meaning rooted in Buddhism. These dances are believed to purify negative karma and protect spectators from misfortune.

Locals arrive dressed in their finest traditional attire—men in gho and women in kira—adding to the sea of vibrant hues. The festival is not just a religious event but also a social gathering, where families reunite, share food, and celebrate together.

Lung Dhar (prayer flags) are often hoisted horizontally on poles and sometimes hung vertically across mountains, bridges, and near religious sites. As the wind blows, the prayers printed on the flags are believed to spread blessings, clear obstacles, and bring good fortune.

Lungta (Wind Horse), a symbol of strength and swiftness that carries prayers across the globe. Windhorse carrying Three Jewels of Buddhism—the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Surrounded by four mythical protectors: the Tiger, Snow Lion, Garuda, and Dragon.

The flags represent the five elements: sky (blue), air (white), fire (red), water (green), and earth (yellow). They are usually raised on an auspicious day chosen through traditional astrology.

Although many people now buy ready-made flags from stores, the traditional wooden block printing method is still practiced in some places.
