MoICE Minister Namgyal Dorji reported that there have been 79 tour cancellations and an additional 40 booking cancellations due to the Middle East Conflict and the subsequent rise in airfare.
He said that the Ministry is encouraging partners and guests not to cancel, reviewing the visa framework, and considering greater flexibility with the 90-day visa period, with a one-year window for recovery.
Lyonpo said that the lessons include the need for market diversification to avoid over-reliance on any single country or region, building a more resilient tourism sector capable of withstanding external shocks, and recognising the importance of domestic tourism, which holds significant potential within the country.
