Bumdra will always have my heart ❤️ The place, the scenery, the people, the air—it all feels like a dream. Even as a local Bhutanese, I can’t help but long for the moments spent there. If I could plan the next ten years of my life, I’d want to stay at Bumdra—either as a hermit or simply as someone practicing meditation amidst its serene beauty. 🕊️

For those who want to trek but prefer a shorter journey, Bumdra is perfect—the shortest trek, yet hands down one of the most beautiful. And don’t miss the sunrise 🌄—truly one of life’s most magical experiences.

Tsho-frosting is essentially a symbolic offering of vitality—something meant to nourish deities, local spirits, or the protective forces we call lha, nyen, and lu. During rituals, monks or practitioners add it onto tormas to “complete” the offering, like a final touch that says:

“Here is the essence of life, may you accept it and return your blessings.”

It’s believed that this offering helps restore or strengthen someone’s tsho when they’re going through illness, bad luck, or life obstacles. That’s why you see it most often in healing rituals, appeasement ceremonies, or major family rites.

Perched on a ridge in the upper Paro Valley, Drugyal Dzong (meaning “Fortress of Victory”) was built in 1649 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over Tibetan invaders. For centuries, it stood as a proud sentinel of Bhutanese resilience until it was tragically destroyed by fire in the 1950s. Today, the ruins remain one of Paro’s most beautiful heritage sites — a quiet reminder of the country’s strength and spiritual depth.
A new dzong is now being reconstructed near the original site, symbolizing Bhutan’s way of honoring the past while rebuilding for the future.
