Travelling in , you will see colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind across the country’s landscape - in and around monasteries, chortens or stupas, dzongs, homes, by riversides and mountain roads, and near the summit of mighty peaks in the country.
The different colors represent the five elements of nature: white for metal, yellow for earth, red for fire, green for wood, and blue for water. A typical prayer flag has a ‘wind horse’ or lungta bearing three flaming wish-fulfilling jewels on its back. The three jewels represent the Buddha, the Buddhist teachings and Buddhist community. Around the wind horse are auspicious symbols, mantras and prayers for long life and good fortune for the person who hoists the prayer flags.
It is believed that when the wind blows, the prayers and blessings of the sutras are carried to all sentient beings🙏🏼
