Jomolhari Mountain Festival in Bhutan is celebrated annually from 14-15th October at the highlands of a yak herder's village called Dagojong near the Jomolhari Peak - located at an elevation of 4090m/13,415ft showcasing the rich culture and traditions of yak herders.
The festival can be witnessed by enduring a 3 days hiking from Paro following the famous Jomolhari Trek Route.
Here is about Jomolhari Trek – It is a medium level of difficulty rating trek that covers a total distance of 60Miles/96Kms hiking for a 7days Trek. It is one of my favorite short treks that immerse trekkers into a rich sense of quiet Himalayan Trekking in Bhutan. The scenic trek follows upstream Paro River for 3 days up to the base camp of Jomolhari Peak (Alt.7326m/24,175ft) and crosses Bongtela Pass at 4890m/16,137ft, as the highest elevation on the trip. Despite its natural beauty, the trek passes by few yak herders’ villages providing ample chances to interact and know more about their unique way of life. One special feature of this beautiful trek is Jomolhari Peak greets us every day from start until the end of the trek with different view throughout the entire trek.

We would like to inform you that the Thimphu Marathon Committee is organizing the 2nd Edition of the Thimphu Marathon – Run for Global Peace on Saturday, 19th September 2026. It is organised by Department of Tourism

Thank you — your majesty for gracing the 2nd edition of rhododendron week festival (3-9th April) at my village Merak. I was there for the first festival and I am coming in few days to attend this year’s festival as well. But darn! I just missed HM the King’s visit this as he visited last year on the last day of the festival, so I planned for it but I missed it.
Let us plan for next year’s rhododendron festival.
