With deep respect and heartfelt gratitude, we pay tribute to ’angge Chödrö, one of the fluent speakers of the ’Olep language from Rukha. In her quiet presence she lived a world of stories, memories, and wisdom passed down through generations; a world that she graciously shared with us.
’angge Chödrö was more than a bearer of an endangered tongue she was a guardian of a cultural legacy. Through her voice, we heard the laughter, struggles, and dreams of a people whose language teetered on the edge of silence. Her willingness to recount folktales, songs, and memories has become a precious gift not just for ’Oleps in Rukha, but for all of Bhutan and the generations to come.
As we mourn her passing, we also raise our voices in gratitude, for the moments we spent listening, learning, and preserving what would otherwise be lost. Her stories now live on in our recordings, a small but powerful shield against forgetting.
Her loss reminds us with urgency, we must act now. The source of Bhutan’s oral literature our elders, storytellers, and tradition-bearers are vanishing. Each unrecorded voice is a library burning quietly in the night. We at the Bhutan Oral Literature Project (BOLP) reaffirm our commitment to giving highest priority to documenting these living treasures before they fade into silence.
Kadrinche la ’angge Chödrö. Dewacen gi zhingkham lu kewa sho.
