January 2, 2020 - Winter Solstice
Known as Nyilo, which literally means the return of the sun, the holiday celebrates the returning winter sun and is traditionally the new year of the people of Sha and Wang in western Bhutan. Traditionally, the celebrations included children going around household to household chanting songs of loh ley, which wish the households good fortune in the coming year. In return, the households offer the children food or money.
