It is believed, whenever this bird sings, it is a sign some special guests are coming around and the host be ready. Ola is also a cousin of the very elegant and inte

lligent bird Raven, to which bird the entire history of Bhutan is constituted. In some parts of the world the word, “Ola” also means, “Happiness,” or, “Wonderful.” It’s a wonder how these three-letter-word has a very profound and unique meaning all around the world. It’s for this very reason and bearing all the important significances of the word, “Ola” on mind, Ola Tours & Trek was established by two brothers in the spring of 2016. Just as singing of the bird Ola signifies coming of guests in my language, Ola Tours & Trek takes it a step further to give a deeper meaning to Ola, by preparing for your safe/comfortable touring/trekking/exploring/spiritual seeking or efficient discovering of Bhutan, “The Land of the Thunder Dragon.” That when you leave my country, you are happy filled with wonderful experiences and memories.

So why is tipping important?
Tipping is not just a monetary gesture; it is a way to honor these unsung heroes. It bridges the gap between their sacrifices and the appreciation they truly deserve. It recognizes the nights they spent away from loved ones, the meals they skipped, the tears they shed in silence, and the smiles they wore to brighten your day. For them, a tip is more than financial support—it’s a token of respect and gratitude for the countless ways they have enriched your journey. Their dedication goes far beyond the ordinary, and tipping them is more than a gesture of gratitude—it’s a recognition of their sacrifices and an acknowledgment of their unwavering commitment to their craft.

A Tribute to the Uncrowned Heroes of Tourism, our beloved Guides and Drivers

To the silent champions of every journey—our guides (Tour Leaders ) and drivers (Tour Captains) — we owe an unmeasurable debt of gratitude. These unsung heroes dedicate their lives to turning every ordinary trips into extraordinary memories, often at great personal sacrifice. They are not just Tour Leaders and Tour Captains; they are the heart and soul of every traveler’s adventure, the protagonist behind every travel memories.

Their profession is far from ordinary. Each day, they face unpredictable challenges—treacherous trails, harsh weather, and ad hoc changing itineraries—yet they navigate it all with calm professionalism. They wear unwavering smiles, shielding guests from discomfort, and ensuring every experience feels seamless. But behind these smiles lies a story of sacrifice.

These heroes spend months after months away from their families, missing milestones like birthdays, anniversaries, and their children’s first words. They endure physical exhaustion from endless driving and grueling treks, and emotional strain from being apart from loved ones. Despite the pain in their hearts and the fatigue in their bodies, they remain focused, driven by a passion to serve and represent their country with pride. Their challenges are limitless, it could hit them any time from any angles and anything could happen yet they navigate it like the champions even before the travellers get the gist of it. It is not easy and it will never be easy.

They don’t judge the travellers through mountains or drive across winding roads—they serve as ambassadors of their culture, narrating stories and showcasing traditions that leave lasting impressions. Their dedication is a badge of honor, and their sacrifices are often invisible but profound. It requires optimum levels of knowledge to be able to share everything about the nation and this is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea.

Why the name Ola? Here is why...

Greetings from Ola ~

OLA, the Bhutanese appellation for the crow, serves as the emissary of Ap Chundu, a revered local deity, conveying messages between deity and people. Esteemed by the inhabitants of Haa, the villagers ritually offer the first portion of their food to the crow, believing it carries these offerings to Ap Chundu, a tradition upheld to this day.

Throughout the nation, Ola holds a distinguished status as a versatile bird, imbuing its song with potent messages, often with romantic undertones, capable of uplifting spirits. Passed down from our parents to us during childhood, this bird's melody continues to hold excitements.

“It is widely believed that the singing of this revered bird heralds the arrival of esteemed guests, prompting hosts to prepare eagerly for their comings”.

In various corners of the globe, the term "Ola" carries connotations of "Happiness" and "Wonderful," beyond its common usage as "Hello." The profound and universal significance of this three-letter word is truly remarkable. It is with this significance in mind that Ola Tours & Trek was founded in the spring of 2016.

Just as the majestic Ola's song signals the arrival of guests, Ola Tours & Trek endeavours to infuse deeper meaning into Ola, our mystical bird, by ensuring safe and delightful vacations in Bhutan. Thus, when departing our country, you depart filled with joyful experiences and cherished memories, ready for the bird to sing anew in preparation for future guests.

Ola Tours & Trek extends a hearty welcome to you!
