Bhutan was featured as the 12th Best Countries in the World 2020: Reader's Choice Awards by Condé Nast Traveler

Bhutan : “GNH” are the three letters you should get to know if traveling to Bhutan. The “Gross National Happiness” index, after all, is how the government measures its own progress, using non-materialistic Buddhist tenets such as sustainable and equitable socio-economic development and environmental conservation. GNH is the theory behind the unique visa program Bhutan uses to curb over-tourism. While the $250 per day visa price might arrive with a bit of sticker shock, think of it this way—that figure is a minimum daily spend that includes meals, accommodations, land transport, and a guide. Do the math and you’ll see that’s comparable—less, even—than what you’d spend on a European vacation, minus the crowds. After all, part of what makes this gorgeous little country so special is just how quiet and untouched its landscape is.
